Question for you Autox people about Layout and model of car
Hey,
I just had a few questions for you guys.
I want to build a very good handling car for City Interstate driving and downtown driving. Meaning lots of Turning, diving in and out of traffic and so forth...
My question is
Which is better for that kinda of driving (Autox/Street) Crx or Civic 92-95?
Which is a good Layout for that type of driving (Autox/Street) FWD, RWD or AWD?
My thoughts where these:
Get a 1992-1995 Turbo the D16z6 with a Td05h 14b turbo strip from driver back get a spring and shock combo and Lighten the car up as much as possiable while keeping AC.
I speced the 1995 civic as being 2400lbs with out driver..
Or get a 1990-1991 CRX si swap it to ObD1 and throw the D16z6 in there turbo it on the P28 ecu. Then do some suspension work on it as well... and keep A/C
speced the crx 1991 as 2169lbs with out driver..
I also know the crx has a shorter wheel base and over all length but is also not as wide as the 1992-1995 civic does that effect handling if the car has a long WheelBase
I know that makes a diffrence and thats why im haveing trouble.
My thoughts/Goals where 215Whp and try to lighten the car and put money into suspension. I know that the type of driving means that Traction of drive train isnt as important IE: Drag racing you want RWD or AWD, FWD is just a burn out machine but when your moving already that doesnt mean as much...
Just let me know what you guys think and help point me in the right way..
Thanks...

First thing to do, if you want to auto-x is check out the rules.
Motor swaps and turbo, put you into a class where you will get your *** handed to you.
I would look into the STS class, this is a very popular and competative class.
remember stock is the most reliable

Well, I dont plan on competing in AutoX. I was asking the Autox people about the layouts and stuff.. I compair Normal Street driving to AutoX in terms of traffic and turning..

I don't know why the hell you need a 215whp race car for what you're asking for above. How about instead of all that nonsense, get a stock CRX. You don't want it slammed if you're driving in a city, because it'll handle like ****, and you'll blow your shocks, all while bottoming out frequently. You don't need 215whp for ANY reason. Skip the turbo nonsense if you want reliability and less hassle.
If you're worried about the comfort of AC, don't bother stripping out the back of the car. It'll be much louder, and you'll lose a lot of practicality. There's no reason a street car NEEDS to be 50lbs lighter. Almost every day I drive my car I wish I could put the interior back in (rollbar prevents that, at least without serious hacking).
Lastly, autoxing is NOTHING like street driving. At all. In any way, shape, or form. There's no traffic to deal with, it's all on a big empty parking lot, and you're pushing the car at 10/10ths the entire time.
I just bought a bone stock '93 Impreza to share with my girl. Any day of the week, I'd pick that for driving on the street over my Civic, which is (minus the 215hp) essentially what you described above. This is with **** tires and **** brakes, no power, etc. It's plenty fun and plenty capable. If you can't handle a stock car, get out to some autoxs or track days and learn how to drive properly.

Well, I guess my post was taken the totaly wrong way... I wasnt posting to be come a AUTOX racer I was just asking for AUtoX experence. I want 215WHP becasue a 108HP crx is not what I want to drive. Thats 18more hp than a Accent. With the way you where telling me I mise well just not bother. With even worrieing about a what type of car to drive.. I can tell you a CRX with a b16a and coilover suspension was alot better than when it was 108hp stock suspension and that I know from Living it.... I guess Im done witht his thread ...

That's probably best. If this continued, you'd get much harsher responses from other people.
And just so you know, 215whp is really ******* fast in a 2400lb or lighter Honda. It's just silly.
And if 108hp isn't enough for you to have fun, you're not having the right kind of fun. Come out to Summit Point sometime and get a ride with me or one of the others throwing out an astounding 120whp, and see how much fun it can be
