For the longest time now, (3+ years) I have been running around with some el cheapo APC black housing headlights on my Super-Coupe.

They were great, except for the fact that you couldn't adjust the one headlight down, effectively blinding everyone on the road. Also, they started to break down inside. They must use some sort of resin somewhere in the housing, because over the past couple years, it started to deteriorate and hang down into the path of the beam.

So, I was bored a couple weeks back, and decided to give my stock housings a refresh/paint. Then something clicked in my head.

I had a buddy with a set of E60 BMW bixenon projectors/ballasts!

So, needless to say, they came into my hands. After a couple of days playing around with them, my father helped me retrofit them into my OEM headlight housings.

The ballasts were also hidden under the headlights, so when you look in my engine bay, there's no big boxes sticking out.

NOTES:

Projectors/ballasts: E60 bixenon
Shrouds: Mercedes E-Class
Paint used on housings: Duplicolor Gunmetal Truck/SUV paint

Also, I'd like to note that I retained use of the factory switching for hi-low beam activation. The trick was, with the '96-'00 Civic's H4 setup, the low beam power supply switched off when the high-beam power was switched on. This problem was resolved by moving a pin on the switch at the column to an empty location (which I believe is the pin location of the DRL in Canada?).

The only feature I currently do not have is the 'flash-to-pass.' Darn.

althogh they look a little bit tooo high... still aiming them?

beauty of the 6th gen headlights is the ability to control left/right & up/down so all you have to do is align them perferticaly hoizontal

There's a connector at the backside of the headlight switch, move the red/white wire to the open spot at the bottom pin location. That will provide power to the low beams, irregardless to if the high beams are switched on.

So should my cutoff look like a set of stairs from far away?

Do my beams need horizontal adjustment?

I moved the passenger side down just the other day...

 

The trick is to get the output as even as possible, so this will involve overlapping the beams.





But I have my passenger side a tad bit higher than the driver side, and it doesn't bother me. That's how some cars come from the factory, anyway.

You shouldn't have to mess with the horizontal adjustment, just the vertical. It doesn't look bad at all in the pics.

I've also been told that it's best to adjust each one side a bit, then switch, and repeat, or you'll snap the projector right off.

 

Congrats on the whole bug eye look Derek. lolol. They look great man. I am jelous though, I wish the ITR had high/low beam HID's. F'n jdm ITR headlights, pieces of **** lol.

By the way, I saw an ek9 today on the pike on the way to to train station. Black, gold rims, had CTR decals on it. Loud *** exhaust..vtec sounded pretty powerful and heavy when he got on it..do your magic and find out who it was before I get back!!
