1990 Accord LX- 16V engine
Not that good with mechanics but wanted to ask a question:
I have a 90 Accord LX w/260K miles. i noticed oil leaking from what looks like the seal of the motor to me. (the big black box right in the middle under the hood-that has the type of motor it is written on it) it started as a little leak and now there is more oil on and around it. when i stop at a light I can see smoke coming from the driver side under the hood. this morning on my way to work, i put a quart of oil in it and about 5 miles up the road i saw a cloud of smoke come from what i think was my exhaust pipe. it lasted about 4 or 5 seconds then nothing. CAN ANYONE GIVE ME SOME ADVICE OR HELP??

the black rectangle is called the Valve Cover, it covers the camshaft, rocker arms, and valves inside of the head of the motor.
with that many miles, its very common for the valve cover gasket to leak...
i recommend going to an auto parts store, picking up a Haynes repair manual and a Valve Cover Gasket Kit (they sell the whole kit). follow the guide in the haynes, its a very simple procedure and requires no more than a ratchet with a 10mm socket on it.
thatll solve your leak.
and as far as 4-5 seconds of smoke, it may just have been oil that you spilled, or oil that dripped out of the valve cover gasket onto the hot exhaust. i wouldnt worry about it unless it continues after you replace the gasket.
