Default New BB6 Owner, got a couple quick questions

Hey fellas,

Just picked up a 1997 BB6 prelude, Eucalyptus green, 5 speed, Just had some quick questions as this is my first prelude

Aside from the basic maintenence, is there anything specific i should do/check for on the car? I checked the rear wheel bearings, they seemed fine, i noticed the suspension creaks in the rear, so i'm assuming i have to get the updated perches

The car has a decent amount of miles on it so i was hoping to get some tips on preventative maintence

Any help would be great

Thanks

The auto tensioner tends to fail on many of the 5th gens. you should look into getting that fixed/replaced when/if it is going out.

oh yea i forgot to add; I would have edited my OP, but 1897 already quoted me

when it rains, your trunk will flood up with water. No joke. Its not like it floods all the way up, but there will be a significant amount of water under your spare. It is caused by a few things. a bad tail light gasket, and/or clogged sunroof drains. I will try to post up more as i can think of them.

Never had that problem before, but I guess it will happen if any of those things listed goes bad. My lude was perfect minus the auto tensioner being on its way out. Glad to see another Eucy Green lude owner in the forums.

Ive never had any leakage problems with my 5th gen. I would do the manual tensioner swap as well, change t-belt / water pump while you are at it, depending on how many miles it has change the transmission fluid to.

Yes it is common for water in the trunk, not just preludes either.

I thought it was 97-98 mostly. I believe 1999 had the newer part.

Thanks for all the replies, they are greatly appreciated

I will definitly check on the tensioner, the timing belt, water pump and all were just replaced recently, where can I get a manual tensioner from?

I dont think i have the trunk water problem, it has been raining these last couple days and the trunk stays dry, so i guess i'm lucky

Thanks again, feelin the love from the prelude owners

You can get most of the parts from a dealership, or even here on the site. Here is a useful link for the conversion as well. Good luck and enjoy the Prelude.

If somone can get me more info on the water in the trunk problem. Was cleaning out my car and noticed a very small amount of water in the trunk. Where do I check the sunroof? And I have noticed one of the tail lights with a little moisture in it but I think its opposite side. Any help would be fantastic. Thank you in advance.

There aren't any downsides to removing those plugs? No moisture build up in the summer or anything like that? Wanna check all angles before I just do it.
