Default milege on bikes... (SEARCHED)

I'm looking to purchase my first bike but I'm confused on the milege... For example, a honda with 100k isn't bad but what does that translate to in terms of motorcyles (20k)? thanks in advance...

i'm at 21k on my honda and it's just fine. if you keep up with your maintenance your fine. most people say that's high but that's cause so many get wrecked before ever reaching that high. there's tons of older sport bikes of all makes that have 60000+ on them. Only downside is around 20k you do have some maintenance things to take care of normally

As long as the engine has been maintained (services, oil changes, valve checks/adjustments, etc), then a motorcycle engine can be just as reliable as a car's.

Obviously an engine with 30k miles on it that has been raced will be in different shape from one that has not been raced for 60k miles.

as long as a bike is maintained the mileage really isn't too much of an issue. i'd consider anything over 40k to be high mileage. Think about this though - the biggest reason you probably don't see a lot of higher mileage bikes is because they're wrecked and they're not worth rebuilding or putting back together so people either scrap them or part them out.

i'd say that is a pretty good comparison... depends on the bike though, for instance my vfr should be able to hit 100k without any major work done...

+1 on the wrecking before actually obtaining high mileage.
This is why sport bikes have such low mileage all the time.
If you start shopping for higher priced bikes, or "enthusiast" bikes you'll find the mileage to be higher. When i was looking for Aprilia Mille's i never really saw much under 16k miles. This is just beause the people that were buying them were generally older males who had more experience riding.
I've got 15.8k on my RC and haven't had to do anything except oil changes.

yep, same thing for BMW's... older more experienced owners who take better care of the bike and dont do as much stupid shiet as the younger riders who frequent the CBR/YZF/ZX/GSX-R lines.

wow bikes have an average of 1800 miles on them? i guess a lot of people have bikes that don't ride them. in its first 10 years, my bike averaged 720 miles per year. in the past two months, it has received 1500

I think the stats are skewed. Either a rider rides hardly any at all, or rides the hell out of the bike, not many riders in the middle.

I sold my 98 gixxer in pefect, almost mint condition with 32k on the clock.

I have a buddy with an RC51 with 46k+ on his bike. Still runs fine.

How could someone only put 1800 miles on in one year. I've done that in a weekend

I almost want to call BS on that, but before anything I want to know if you're counting weekend as 3 days or two.

BTW I've found an 03 SVS 650 with only 2K miles on it, this year, so that thing was 3 years old, and it only had about 25 hours of use on it.

Allright I can see that, it's still a lot.

To pickup my bike, me and a buddy went 1200 miles, took about 20 hours straight driving, it was crazy.

We put almost as many miles on the truck as the bike had (2K - bike)
