bike wont start, i took the fuel line off and the fuel pump still shoots fuel up when the key is turned on. but my bike wont start it just keeps cranking. i had it runnin via funnel connected to fuel line and the guages, signals, lights,and flashers wouldnt work. i got 2 used relays to replace the other ones and its doin the same thing.

 

did we check for spark?...

 

yes its getting spark, its definately fuel related cause when i disconnect the fuel line and put a lil fuel in the line myself, itll run for a few minutes and then cut off

 

It might help if you were to actually give information on the bike in question.

so this is a carb bike... dp youl feel it is fuel starvation or flooded? overwhelming smell of fuel? perhaps it is getting to much fuel and flooding out? what color are the plugs? need a bit more info. could be something as simple as a plugged line between the pump and the carbs... also fuel filter could be all junked up and not allow fuel delivery. does that bike have a petcock? are you sure of proper position of the petcock? try in "on" and "Reserve"

 

yes the bike does have a petcock, i tried it in "on" and "reserve" same thing, i take it the fuel pump squirts just a lil gas durin start up and when the bike starts the fuel pump takes over from there? and it probably delivers the fuel in pulses. im thinkin a clogged line now

 

carbs on bikes usually work via gravity feed and then negative pressure... if you have a torn diaphragm flow will not be consistent. checking plug lines and/or filter are fairly easy to do... if you have never changed out a filter just do it, it is cheap insurance. also if your mechanically inclined you can have plugged orifices in the carb units themselves... pilot circuits and main/secondary jets etc. if your floats are bad, they wont keep the proper amount of fuel in the bowls, leading to fuel starvation. Check air fuel/ adjustment screw, there is a mass screw for "across all four" carbs and there are individual screws for sync'ing...

 

well the carbs were just cleaned by a local motorcycle shop. he told me i needed a new relay asssembly. i heard it run before i picked it up. got the used relay last night and i hear the "click" for the fuel pump when i turn the key to the ON positition but all it does is crank, but would u know if that relay controls the lights and guages also?

 

I would imagine it is seperate, a fuel relay and a lite/ignition relay. But I can not confirm that, I dont own one of these bikes.

 

checked filter and its good. the "on" and "reserve" switch is good. pulled the tank out and now im thinking its the fuel pump
