Default Need some suggestion/help on lighter Crank Pulley??

Hey guys i was wondering if you could help me answer this quesiton. ive been wondering if running a lighter crank pully like the ones from UR is a good or Bad Idea?? ive been hearing it does give great performance and free up power but i also heard its a bad idea cause it causes abnormal engine wear since the pully is not balanced with the engine?? any clues on this?? thanks

this is a unanswerable question.

basicly you will get 1 of 2 things as a answer.

some use them with no problems.

others have used them with nothing but problems.

this is the thing the OEM pullies have dampners in them which absorb the shock of higher rpm rev and whatnot. the billet or aftermarket pullies do not have this and it is possible for the pulley to send the shock to the bearings of the motor and the oil pump. making 1 of the 2 fail or both.

but some people DO use these with no problems. but for me it would be just too much of a risk to take bc of the fact that the dampners arent in the pulley and could send the shock to other parts of the motor and prematurly wear things or... but it could not also......

the choice is yours.

i have a JDM b16a1 that ill be working on. but i have the stock pulley on there with all the AC/PS/and Alt on there as usual. but i swapped in to a 87 teg so i dont have AC/PS so i was thinking of running the OEM CTR Race Crank Pully. its OEM so would that be ok to run instead of the Aluminum ones?? i hate to have the OEM crank pulley on there when im not even using any of the provisions the pully has. bascially it more weight and im not needing the extra weight since im not using any other accessories other than the alt.

so is the CTR pulley good to use instead of the Aluminum ones??

even tho its OEM it doesnt have the dampner on it either. and the same rules apply, there have been people who had thier motors messed up from those also. esp bc its so light and the rest of the motor isnt balanced with it....

its really up to you, but its a chance you take.... basicly the ammount of whp you gain isnt worth the chance taken, even tho you arent running the other pullies you still wont gain much if any power so IMO its not really worth taking the chances
