For some odd reason, the passengers side front and rear door power locks just decided to quit working today on our 1999 Accord EX Sedan. Are there different relays or fuses for the left and right sides? I checked both sides fuse panels and the only power lock fuse in on the passengers side. I have tried both door switches and both remotes to no avail. Anyone have a suggestion on what else could it be?

sounds like faulty wires in the dash....if the fuse is fine...and both front auto door looks are dead..

 

Actually, both drivers side doors (front and rear) work and both passengers side doors (front and rear) quit today. I'm sure its not faulty wiring.

Could be dead actuators. I've seen them go in pairs before. Or a multiplex problem. But actuators are where I'd start. They seem to be fairly crappy in the 6th gens. I know we replace a lot at my shop.

 

I was hoping I wouldnt hear "actuators". How difficult are they to replace? Pull the door panel and voila?? Also, does the 6th gen have a Power Lock control module?

Do you think resetting the ECU would have any suuccess? My guess is no, but it never hurts to throw it out there.

It never hurts to reset the system. Hondas drivability and electrical problem diagnostic guides are increasingly starting with resetting the electrical system.

The accord has a couple of multiplexes. The easiest test would be to pull the passenger front door panel. Gently pull back the plastic sheeting. I suggest cutting the putty with a razor blade as you pull it down. The vapor barrier is very important to the interior of your car staying dry so if you tear it make sure you fix it. The actuator is at the back of the door. White or yellowish plastic. Unplug it and have someone flip the switch on the drivers side while you test for power. If you are getting a signal on lock and unlock it's a bad actuator. If you get no signal you have a multiplex or wiring issue.

EDIT: Make sure you hook the door and window switches up on the door you are testing. IIRC you may not get a signal if the passenger lock switch is unplugged.

my buddy has a 99 ex sedan with the same symptoms; some locks work when it wants to.

 

I have a 99 Accord and my car just started doing this too. The driver door lock will work some days and others not. I am convinced it has to do with the rain. Since I removed my A/C I will roll my windows down slightly even when drivin gin the rain. I think the rain is getting into the door and creating some dampness b/c the door locks won't work for a few days after we had gotten some serious rain. The door lock would continue working a few days later after the rain had ended. Maybe it's the actuator; but I swear it's the rain.

 

When you say they don't work...

when they are activated (by the key or by the switch on the door) do they try to lock or unlock? That is, do you hear a click and see the locks jiggle a little, but not fully engage or disengage?

Or are they just dead?

 

Yes, it seems that sometimes they jiggle a bit, but wont go up or down 99% of the time.

99% chance of weak actuators being the culprit. Very common on 6th gens.
