RHD Write-Up
This is for all you guys that the RHD Conversion or just buying a RHD car has crossed your mind.
I have been trying to find out as much as I can. It has crossed my mind once or twice.
Is it legal?
Yes. Just keep the USDM VIN numbers and everything should be fine. There are two routes. Use the USDM shell and convert it to RHD using USDM VIN numbers. Or I guess if it was possible I'm not sure though just get a totaled JDM car and put on the USDM VIN's.
Why don't lots of people convert to RHD?
Lots of work. Lots of money. Worthless, stupid, and pointless in a lot of peoples eyes. But different.
And very hard to get used to. A lot of people are not sure of the rules aobut it so are afraid to do it.
Why don't people just import a JDM car?
I have heard of insurance being a problem. The more I have been reading up, it is not a problem. Probably just don't want to mess with it. Getting it legalized and what-not is hard so I have heard. But actually you would be surprised with the importing cost. Usually goes for about $500-$1000 for a small sports car. I've also been told getting a title is a hard process. This can be done but they will only allow it for competition unless it is a Skyline or something. Just cheat, and buy one that is already imported and legalized.
What are the drawbacks?
Getting used to it. I guess in a way the attention is a drawback. You may have to take off your seat belt and lean over to the passenger side to grab your fast food. Or if you wanted to make a laugh or two, drive through it in reverse. Get used to shifting with your left hand.
If you know any more please say so. Or if you have one, talk about it. Don't argue. Just state facts. Sorry I know I have little info but It's all i can find so far. And I am wanting to be corrected if need be.

importing a rhd car is only difficult in states that actually care. such as california. everything is illegal in california...
i have insurance on my imported prelude through state farm and the rates are no higher than they would be for a US lude. i have full coverage also. they also said they would take into consideration that the imported prelude is worth more than the USDM ones. they told me to keep as much documentation on other jdm preludes selling in the states, how much i payed for mine, and going costs...
going through drive thru's is really not as hard as you think. mos tof the time i am in a hurry right before work and i drive though it like i would a USDM car and just lean over... i dont have to take off my seat belt or anything, it really isnt that far! i have however gone through it in reverse a few times and that just confuses the **** out of people and draws LOTS of attention.
as far as driving on "US" roads go... i have NO problem with it what so ever. it took a few days to get comfortable with staying in the lines but now i drive it better then i did my usdm prelude. its not as hard as you think...
conversions, if done right, but its a long dificult process that most think is just a waste. if done properly it will be just fine and im sure anyone thats done it has loved the outcome.
