Default Plastic door liner necessary?

I want to put some Dynamat on my door frames. I won't have enough to cover the entire door and I'm worried I'll have any problems with keeping water out if I take out the entire plastic liner.

More easily put: if I take out the plastic door liners, will this have any negative effect on my doors (e.g., water getting into them when it rains)?

yes it is there as a moisture barrier. And it helps to keep out the cold air drafts as you are cruising down the road. In a few years you could have loads of mold growing on the inside of the door panel.

Thanks for the info! If you have any experience with working with Dynamat, do you think that sticking it to the inside of the door panel instead of the door itself (thus leaving the door liner intact) would work to decrease road noise from the outside?
