Default 99 CRV A/C Problem

The AC is not working like before. It will always blow cool air, but sometimes not too cold. For example, if I'm at idle or stop and go traffic, the air isn't as cold, but if I'm driving on the highway at constant speed the air is normal cold. There used to always be slight variations between idle and highway, but now it seems idle is noticeably less cold. Any clues?

Thanks.

Esteban

Our 2000 had a similar problem. Try replacing or cleaning the A/C filter located behind the glovebox.
Hope it helps.

Thanks John. Can you point me to where to access? From inside or via the engine area?

Thanks,

Esteban

It's not an easy job. Take the glove box door off, I think there are 2 or 4 screws for that. There is a steel cross bar over the filter. If memory serves there are 3 screws and nuts at each end of the cross bar. They are really hard to get at, but it can be done. with the cross bar off the filter can be removed. I did this in Mexico last winter and just used an air hose to blow it out. Before the back seat was always warm, and after it was at least comfortable on a 90 degree day.
Someone else may be able to point out an easier way to access the filter, but I couldn't see one. Mine is a 2000, but there shouldn't be much difference. Let me know how it comes out.
