ok when i turn my key all the way in the 3 position my car will fire up, but once i let it go
into the 2 position it just dies. I have been reading around and i think its the ignition switch? I just wanted to confirm that all i need to do is buy the electric portion and replace it?

That sounds like the problem. The way to confirm is to check continuity thru each circuit of the switch at the different switch positions.
