Well I purchased a tranny with new gear speed synchro's, forks and bearings. It had a factory lsd in it and I was currently using a spool. When I got the tranny the case was beat so I switched out the gear set and forks into my case with the spool. Put everything back together easily. Well I finally tried to drive the car today, I have 1st and 2nd gear no problem, and reverse. It feels and sounds just like the other into 3rd, 4th and 5th, but when I let the clutch out it just grinds and doesn't go into gear. I have no idea what is wrong with this thing, any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Is there something in the tranny that would allow 1st,2nd, and reverse but not the other gears?
the 1-2 shift fork are on the countershaft... the 3-4-5-R are on inputshaft. did you inspect the 3-4 shift fork for any unusual wear? did you inspect the teeth on the gears, where the slider hub fits onto it? did the gears fall off the shafts and put them on wrong? bent shift linkage ? did you try to shift the trans with the outer case off and look for a "suspect" ?

I am not 100% sure what that is, where is it located and would it cause this issue? And to d turbo civic, would reverse still work with something wrong on that side of things? The forks were new so no wear really at all and we just moved the gearsets from one case to the other, didn't even dissasemble them. We had thoughts of the linkage maybe being bent or what not but it seems to be working fine. I am gonna drop it today and take it back apart just not exactly sure what to look for, it went back together so smoothly and effortlessly, I can't imagine something not being put back together wrong, that is why I am so stumped. Its like the shifter needs to move things another 1/4 inch or something inside to go all the way in.

well, pretty much. Whatever it is, you're going to have to crack the case open. There's not fluid that could cause it. Although make sure that you check the clerance on the mainshaft and the differential.

Yea I put the shims back on the input shaft and the mechanism looked golden. I will tear it down today and probably take some pics and see if you all might be able to find the culprit if I can't find it myself. Thanks guys, I will be posting up after the teardown, stay posted pros, gonna need ya.

Well visually it look as good as when I put it back together. It appears that the shift fork isn't moving the sleeve up far enough to fully engage the gear, like it shifts but there is a lot of slop there or something, dunno, any thoughts, I am gonna take pics of it.

Ok guys, the very first pic shows the small gap between 3rd and the shifting sleeve, this is what I need to get rid of somehow. The tranny stayed into 3rd for all the pics, please tell me what is wrong because I sure can't find it, lol.

well, forget about 3rd gear, the pics you've posted show the tranny 4th gear, engaged in most of the pics.

this piece needs to be down inside of the other one, it looks to be sitting up about 1/8 inch or so. and its not holding the shifter mechanism like it should be. (the rod that goes through the middle of the pieces.)

4th gear, sorry guys. I will look at that pin, would that cause the current problem? I may have not put that back in perfect since I took that piece back off to inspect since I just took it back apart. Do all the gear sets look intact and what do you all think of the forks? I am gonna put my old forks in and gears sets to see if anything changes. Where the tranny was in the pictures, I can turn the input shaft and hold the diff still and it just makes a missing type sound on the gear, like a grind. If I pull the shifter the extra lil bit it goes right in and holds solid. Im going crazy with this thing.

The case wouldn't close if the shift mech pin is not seated down all the way, but you are correct in that pic....it is not.
What kind of B-series tranny is this? It is my speculation that the Syncro hubs are on upside down. Hard to tell from the pics, but the 3/4 and 5/R syncro hubs are directional.
