should i leave my RSX in gear when parked?
hi, some one told me not to leave my car in gear when it is parked or it will ruin the transmission!!! without putting the e break ... is that true???? is it bad for the car if u do this too often????
thanks
thanks
the ebrake is good enough. dont kill your transmission by leaving it in gear or your tranny will die fast. k series trannys are known to fail from leaving it in gear. i work at acura and see it all the time. only use your e brake

if you knew anything about the internal construction of a transmission you would not say this. Please tell me what exactly will kill the transmission by leaving it in gear, that makes no sense. Its always the best thing to leave it in 1st or R when parked on a hill in case e-brake fails and NO it will not damage your trans

i say hes a janitor at Acura.
my dad is a great auto technician and works at a shop that is rated the #1 auto shop in the bay area. and he said the safe thing to do is to leave it in gear when/if the e-brakes fail. if it will damage the tranny for leaving it in gear, my dad wouldn't have told me to leave it in gear when i park.

You want to put on the e-brake first and then leave the car in gear in case the e-brake would fail. I have always felt the trick is not to rest the car on the tranny. Let the brakes hold the weight of the car.
