NASA @ CMP - WHAT A GREAT WEEKEND
Of course some of you may think I am biased since I am sort of a quasi nasa official, however this weekend was a blast to watch and be around.
There was a lot of excitment with the honda-challenge and the American Iron guys, pluse the SCCS guys had a great thing going it will be pretty cool to see 20 to 30 stock cars racing hard at our events, btw the stock cars were turning 1:46's to 1:47's in the race on sunday.
Highs from the weekend.. in no particular order or ranking
1. Shuggs Draft down the front strait and pass in turn one in the american iron race.
2. The Honda Challange Start - i.e. watching Adam go from back to 4th on the start lap.
3. The descriptiong form Giles on the pass of Lynoel Kent, and I quote " Well I knew I went a little deep but I was sure I had him block on my right... but then I saw something out of the corner of my eye.... aw crap he is on my left! (and the crowd roared with approval)
4. Getting to talk to people and puts names with faces.
5. Watching Warren **** and Corey Jacobs drive the wheels of thier cars after the black flag situation
6. Watching Joe "abuser of small legends cars" Henderson in the small bore race start last and pass almost the whole field.
7. The SCCS Race
8. Getting to drive a Protege5 with 91 miles on it, on a touring lap and pretending I was Roger Foo! (Thanks to Pulliam Wray Mazda)
9. Karl Shultz and his desctription of the jedi mind trick on Chris Brinson - "The race is over" - "You will follow me into the pits" - "That was not the flag you were looking for"
Lows.
1. The cars that broke in both the honda-challege and american iron.
2. The Dissapointment on Dan with the SCCS on the fact that he had 13 no shows. (however they still put on a good show)
3. The whole ****/Jacobs Black Flag Situation. (Jim Johnson Tried his best to make sure it was just Corey who came in)
4. Not haveing a honda challenge car of my own!
So ther are my highs and lows, btw Chris Cobetto himself is also dying to get out there and there are sevral other people who loved the show and want to race.
edit - I added #9 to my list

Whoa I didn't realize there were 13 no-shows for SCCS! That's insane! Nonetheless they put on a really good show, their race was quite interesting to watch. I kept wanting to wave my yellow as the stock cars wiggled in turn one but they kept it together for the most part. That stock car spin at turn 10 at 100+ mph was definitely a sight to see! Can't wait to see them at Summit Point.
The break downs in the race groups were really unfortunate. I was really looking forward to the battle in H2 between Corey, King Rat, Warren, and Starnes.
With the excitement of Honda Challenge I think everyone is now secretly planning to build a car
David you did a great job announcing, are you going to be announcing at Hyper-Fest as well?

Thanks David for keeping everybody on top of everything this weekend, you did a great job, even though you announced something about the 20 car jumping the start
Corey- who was off when I saw the starter's arm move.....

As far as Hyperfest I am not sure I have to check things with my schedule.. I think I might be out of town that weekend (work ugh)
Would this be the same person who took your car out for laps on sunday?
and there are sevral other people who loved the show and want to race.I am not mentioning any names and not speaking with any "official" knowledge but there may be another H3 Integra built much like mine in the next year or 2 parked in the shop next to mine . . .
Pretty disappointing weekend for me. Car was running great in qualifying, then first lap of the race...snap...there goes the tranny. The car WILL be ready for the next race. Corey, Warren, Alex (and any other H2 car)...no more monkeying around...

I agree, great job with the announcing. The drivers at SCCS had a great time at CMP, even though we only had 7 out of the 13 that we were planning for. We believe that we had a good turn out for the inaugural event! We had a lot of our drivers around, it was a shame that they did not get finished with their cars, but we will have an even better turn out at Summit Point.
Glad to hear that others enjoyed our race as much as we did!

Dan it was great to see how hard those guys race, both you and honda-tech guys should be commended with the work you have done to get both series going. Congrats it was a great day.. also sorry misunderstood you when your were talking about no shows I though you said 13 did not show..
Very sorry to hear about that. I think most of us knew you were the car to beat.
I personally want to thank David for being announcer for NASA. He is just great! All of you racing don't have the chance to hear how into the races he is, but his excitement goes out over all the loudspeakers and I wouldn't be a bit surprised that his is no small part in how many people were watching the races.
This weekend there were over 200 spectators there - because of advertising donw by the Pulman-Wrey Mazda dealership and the Factory Five Racing sponsors. Along with Carbo tech, Kirk Racing and a host of other sponsors for the various races.
We debuted 3 race series - the Honda Challenge, The American Iron and the SCCS )Stock Car Championship Series (Got it right Dan!)
If it hadn't been for David's annoucing no one would have known when the cars were racing. No one would have known which car was which or who was where. If we are not careful, he may find a new job and won't be with NASA anymore
.
I love all you guys and your enthusiasm, but I have say - I am still a big bore kinda person and watching the Big Bore race with 12 AI and 13 Stock cars ( not SCCS) was the highlight of my weekend.
I have a feeling watching the SCCS race at Summit in June will surpass that when the ground rumbles and the vibrations go right through you. Whne you can make a Honda sound like that, I'll be all over it
Once again thanks David - you are
#1.
And thanks to you all that raced, were in the HPDE and just came out to help.
Oh BTW - I may not let CObra ever race because he did a
job in grid - maybe one of the hardest jobs at the track.

With the speed you showed in qualifying before you broke on Saturday, it sure looked like you would be fighting for 1st overall.
Good luck at the next races.
Starnes is way too fast. This is God's way of evening up the season
Warren

Warren
Yeah Yeah Yeah - - - I'll pay ($) you both later. With those comments, it's making it harder to decide which one of the two I should block so the other can win.
Again, you guys did a great job.
