Default Subframe reinforcement question

Ive got a 92 civic hatch and Im wondering at what point (size wise) do you need to wory about subframe reinforcement with a rear sway bar? I know 92-95 civics (the 4 door EX model only) came with a 13mm bar and from the best of my knowledge, all 92-95 civic subframes are the same. Now my question is, Ive got a SRR rear lower tie bar and a cusco 17.5mm bar. Should I be looking into either a beaks/ ASR reinforcement? Or can I get by using an adapter plate that comes with the cusco bar?

Any info is appreciated.

TIA

password has the reinforcment plate, i would check into that. I think the sway bar connects to it

Don't bother with the Beaks.

The ASR reinforcement plate is what you want! You can get it from password, or from ASR directly.
The owner of ASR is on here pretty often. You can PM here if ya want. Here is his HT name.

ok, so what you're saying is that anything bigger than the stock 13mm bar needs reinforcement. And that if I ran with no reinforcement with the 17.5mm cusco bar, I would risk damaging my subframe?

I have not seen any subframe ripping on bar less than 22mm. But that doesn't mean it never happens. I would go with Comptech

It is a cool one piece unit from a billet aluminum to ensure maximum rigidity. Not a few pieces connected together.

It's just cheap insurance with any bar size over stock. The ASR brace cost 180 bucks.
Replacing the subframe is much, much more.

The ASR brace is very well thought out, and very strong. The customer service that Charleston (ASR owner) provides is second to none!
There has been NO subframe failures with the ASR brace. You can't say that about any other subframe reinforcement kit on the market!

Another vote for the ASR. I have it on my EJ1 with a JDM ITR and no issues thus far and been using it for almost a year now.

I'm going with the 22mm EG/DC2 ASR setup myself (will get the 32mm setup when it turns track only), but a quick question for those with integras or abs civics, how did you deal with the abs wire? I'm thinking of just tightening the plate down with a ziptie behind it and then zip up the hanging cable. My car is a civic 94 coupe ex abs.

Go with the ASR. I recently instaled one in my car and very happy with the results.

Have there been failures with the comptech piece? I've had mine for like 4 years. I tore the subframe out with the skunk2 21mm bar and welded it back then replaced it with the comptech one and no worries every since.

Short answer, yes. Have there been many? No...

I have personally seen 2. Both of which were correctly installed. One of them tore after 4 years or so on the car. I think one of them was on this forum, and the other was on CSI.

I'm not really sure how that could happen unless the actual brace broke or the entire lower control arms were ripped out also. The main support for the swaybar is on the bolts for the LCA's Not saying I don't believe you, just confused on how that could happen.

22mm bar with the ASR kit. nice looking too. i saw the comptech piece twisted by hand. i would not trust something for chassis stiffeninig that i could bend with my hands. as far as tear out-i dont know what the pieces look like that create the bottom slice of the comptech/subframe sandwich. ASR is illegal for STS if that matters.
