Default found a car what do you guys think?

ok guys i got a good lead on a car.... $900 for a 88 dx sedan with about 300,000 miles! thats freaking crazy... anywho the guy says that if i want to do any serious driving that it will need a tranny at least... i'm thinking of buying it and just doing an engine swap right off the bat... what do you guys think it'll run me for a cheap swap like a d16, b16, zc, etc.. i just want the car to be fun to drive and get me and my friends around. it has a good body, with just a little rust on the rear quarters and a couple of minor dings but all in all it looks good. help a newb out please

Try to get it for less then $900

b16 swap is gonna cost you $1300-1600 Maybe a lil more

b16 swap $1200
mount kit $200-400 Depending on wich mount kit
few other minor things
.................................................. .....................

d16z6 or zc swap, around $500-600

doesnt sound like such a good idea to me
if you are wanting to do a swap right off the bat then i would go ahead and try to find a shell somewhere..i know you can find one cheaper.
good luck

I have to chime in here.

If you buy that for 900, you are nuts. Shoot, you should be able to buy a car like that with a bad tranny for less than $400. With everything you plan on doing to that car, you'll be upsidedown in it before you even drive it. Yeah, I know it isn't the costs that will kill ya, it's the modifications. Thats where you'll use up all your cash and wished you had more to finish it. Then it sits until..................you get tired of looking at it and dump it for what you should have originally paid just to get rid of it.

Find one that is a good daily driver, drive it awhile, then think about the mods later. You'll be happier in the long run, and it's costs are protracted out longer so you can save some to do your mods later.

JMHO, FWIW

Cheers,

Donnie

ask him if you could have it for 400, say your worried about the tranny... 900 is just too much for that car, got my 91 hatch for 900 with 187000! You better have some cash saved up already though. I would plan on spending 3000 if your doing a b swap, save up your cash... if you have the money, do it!!! good luck

IMHO I would never pay over 500 for a non running car. Unless it was a completely rust free 88 or 89 HF!

He never said it didn't run.Just that the original owner thinks that he is going to take the car and race it or something, so he is reccommending a tranny rebuild.

I think $900 is too much for a car w/ 300,000 miles.

ok guys i'm really excited... i'm going to go look at an 89 lx sedan, its a five speed, gray on gray, non running... the guy wants $100 for it... now i know its been beat on pretty hard, but i'm not going to be using the stock engine or tranny so hopefully it'll have a decent body.
so if i can get it my honda buddy was saying i should go with a d16z6 but i'm not sure and would love to hear you guys's opinions.
sorry for the noob stuff, this will be my first car i've ever owned with pistons as i've only owned rx-7's haha sorry guys.

Look into the $100 one however given your location if the $900 one runs and has a mint body/interior it's not all that terrible. You could keep the motor and swap a si tranny in there for under $200. If you do a swap no matter what motor you put in there you're going to have to do the mpfi swap and if you've never done it before and don't have a lot of wiring experience it can be a headache. Click on search and type in dpfi to mpfi and look around in the diy sections. What kind of car are you trying to build? B is more expensive as a whole then D however it'll see higher horsepower in the long run. D is cheaper from the get go and can see decent horsepower and is lighter. Just some food for thought. Keep us posted on what you find. Check out my sig, may be of some help to you. EF SEDANS - FTW!!!!

to ef3... i'd be fine doing pretty much any wiring... i'll be new to hondas but not to cars... i have an 87 rx-7 turbo II... and what i want out of the car is a fun vehicle that i can econmically drive everyday, but still looks good and is fun. but i'm going to look at the car tommorow so i'll post up what i find out.

i bought my 91 dx hatch for $900 and i have 325xxx on the car. just make sure you arn't getting sumone else crap that's ready to die. the only reason he was selling his was he was having a baby on the way and couldn't get a car seat in the back(same reason my gf sold her 10 years ago).

your gonna get all kinds of opinions based on personal experiences. I just got a 91 hatch with a B16 in it, my first honda with a swap. Its a riot and I would say its worth the money for this swap. BUT I have also driven my buddies zc(DOHC JDM) crx si and that was a blast as well. This is considerably cheaper than the b16 if you got that sedan for 100 the zc swapped in shouldnt cost much more than a grand total. cheap fun little car.
