My First Race, my thoughts and how everything went
Wow, thanks guys for all the support!!!
I Had an absolute BLAST this weekend.. Day 1 I was just trying to get used to the track, learn where it goes, because I havn't been there before... Jon Starnes with a ITR was running 1:53.xx laps times, compared to my 1:56.xx, so I had some work to do! Next qualifying session I got my times down to 1:55.0x, so I was learning the track. It got me a good enough qualifying time for 5th spot (out of 21), behind Jack (B18CXr= 92 civic hatch with b18c5), Jon Starnes in the ITR, Alex in his wicked fast CRX, and Karl Shultz's GSR... Everyone who qualified in front of me had driven the track before, and that makes a huge difference
At the start, the CRX that qualified in front of me was burning oil pretty bad, so pulled off right before the green flag waved, so that gave me a clean shot into turn 1. The green flag waved and we were off, I motored right by Scott Giles's GSR (qualified beside me) and past Karl's GSR by the time I got to turn 1.. I knew the car had a lot of power now, but this was nuts! I passed 2 rows of cars going into turn 1! Out of turn 1, I was sitting pretty in 3rd, behind Jack and John's ITR, I stayed close, but Starnes blew his tranny when I was right behind him comming out of Turn 13, so now I was in 2nd place overall, 1st in my class..
Laps went by, and Alex Ratcliff in his Grand-Am cup GSR was comming up quick, as well as a SpeedChannel world challenge Civic SI (very illegal car, and got DQed).. When the Civic caught me, he slowed me up and allowed Alex to catch up to my bumper... We fought it out for a couple laps, I had more power, thanks to this awesome header, but he had more grip (hoo$iers), and I kept pushing him, and he went off in turn 11 while braking, and the lead for H2 was mine to the finish! I couldn't believe it!
I screwed myself over on Sunday, I locked my driving suit in my truck, and couldn't find the keys, and it was time to qualify
I borrowed my friends truck and drove to the hotel to look for the keys, no luck, return to the track to see my driving suit was sitting out.. Morgan (urbanlegend21) had gotten the truck unlocked and was waiting for me to get back.. I got everything on and went on track, and got my warmup lap in, and thats it...
The morning qualifying sessions are always faster, because its cooler, so stupid me for missing it..
The next qualifying session, I went out first so no traffic would bother me, and was fastest out of everyone qualifying that session, but it was only enough to give me 5th starting spot for the sunday race...
Jack was first again in his Hybrid, with Warren **** 2nd in this ITR, and then 2 CRXs in front of me, with Alex Ratcliff besides me.. Looks like it was going to be a good H2 battle, with Warren, Alex and I.. This start was a standing start for this race (F1 style).. I was waiting for the green flag, motor reved to 2700, when BAM, I saw the flagger moved his shoulder to waive the green flag, I was off like a rocket!! Never, Ever will I have another perferct launch like that... You can see me passing the CRX, already within a 100 feet of the start
By the time I was at turn 1, I was right on Warren ****'s bumper, so it was Jack, Warren and I for the first lap, but at the start/finish line, we (warren and I) saw a black flag (which means to come into pits) I couldn't think what it was for, maybe I jumped the start, I didnt' know, so I did another lap, this time they pointed at me!! CRAP! So right when I was about to come in, I saw Warren come in too, and he didn't have to, but he didn't know it was for me.... Anyways, Warren heads back out, and gets up to 5th spot by the finish, but I still feel bad for him comming in..
I stoped on pit road and asked what was wrong, they said GLOVES! I wasn't wearing my gloves!!!!!!!!!!! I never wore gloves while just track driving, so wasn't used to not having them, so i threw them on, and went back out, DEAD last!! I picked of cars lap after lap, and eventually made it up to 9th place by the finish, but I was pissed, rookie mistake I guess.....
So, I won the race on Saturday, Got 3rd in my class on Sunday, I am sitting 2nd in points for H2..
Thanks guys for the support, and bring those prelude's to the track, they arn't the boat that people call them, I proved that...
About the header, I can't describe the difference, I was walking on EVERYTHING on the track, well, almost, Jack's Hybird and the World Challenge Civic could beat me, but other than that, It was FAST! Warren used to pull on me pretty good, not now, whoever had the draft was faster, and he puts 185 down to the wheels.. I need to install a shift light now, the car revs so much up top, I keep banging the rev limiter
Thanks Dave, without your help, I would be seriously hurting power wise...

Congratulations, sucks you ran into some problems (Suit, missing gloves) but you made us Prelude owners proud. I need that Magical Header you have.
Here is a good pic from the pace car, warming up for the start of the race on Sunday... Warren is 71 ITR, Alex Muresan is in the CRX, you can't see the CRX in front of me, but his name is Blake Meredith, with Alex Ratcliff in the blue GSR beside me..

I'll post more as I find them...

Congratulations! Nice start for a first timer...
It sounds like your basically stock Prelude was very competitive with the SpeedVision Touring Car. I always wondered why no one runs 4th gen VTECs in that race series anymore... They used to do very well in SVTC! Are there rules for the SV series that prevent the 4th gen from still competeing there?

He was Disqualified for having lexan windows, 12pt rollcage, and remote resivior shocks...
Now, me and the Grand-Am cup GSR were very even, he had a comptech header and icebox, and was very gutted, and he had a kickass motion suspension... I had more power, but he could corner better...
< Needs Real suspension, and LSD, and more gutting...

I would like to personally congratulate Corey for his first place finish in the H2 class the past weekend at CMP. Alex Ratcliffe also deserves a thumbs up for his second place finish in H2!
In H4, Lyonel Kent placed first, and Adam Richman finished second...great job, Adam!
In H5, my buddy Matthew Bookler finished first...where should I send the 6-pack, Matt?
Richard Floyd turned out a good second place finish.
I look forward to hearing more good results from the future rounds of this year's East Coast Honda Challenge. Big thumbs up to Scott Giles for his work in putting together such a wonderful event!

I run a Aluminum Kirkey Intermediate seat... Yea, had to sell the stock prelude seats, they suck for using with a harness...
My car mods wise, is just gutted, 2 3/4" AEM, SMSP 4-1 header, KYB AGX shocks with 400/500 lb spring coilovers (standard skunk2).. I run Carbotech XP pads (not streetable) with brembo rotors... Thats about it... I have 15x7 Kosei K1s with Kumho Ecsta V700 tires....

hey Corey, have you swapped the springs front to rear ??
eheh
400/500
smart guy
didn't you have a rear ST bar too ?
...can't say that your car is bone stock though..but you still haven't put a **** load of money on it..and you had great power we can tell listening to you..
cornering VS CRX and Civic is hard for the prelude cause of the weight disadvantage ... that is what you will need to work on i guess
are you allowed to replace bushings ?
what is your drop ? camber kit ?
alignment ?

keep up the good work with the lude
( i have to get a stupid accord 4 door and souped it up to go have my *** kicked ahahah
)

Great job Corey, I'm really super impressed! So is the Honda Challenge coming to Summit Point or VIR? If so I'd like to try to make it down to catch one.
So are you still driving your car everyday?

Nope, car is no longer daily driven, I go faster when its not
She's a trailer queen now....
he went off in turn 11 while braking, and the lead for H2 was mine to the finish! I couldn't believe it!
"Saturday's race was great. I ran with Corey Jacobs in the Prelude for several laps before making it by him. Unfortunately my ABS stopped working a some point and I slid off the track a lap later, handing it back to Corey. He drove a great race and our cars we very closely matched."
