Clutch... what parts make up a clutch assembly?
I'm about to take aprart my tranny and clutch off of my '93 VX. It's my first time getting my hands inside a tranny and working with clutch. My questions are:
1. What parts constitute a clutch assmebly? (e.g. throwout bearing, pp, flywheel?)
2. How do they work together as a unit? (what do the bearings and springs do inside a clutch?)
3. How does tranny work in conjunction with a tranny? What part of tranny does the clutch "grab"?
4. Any suggestions when rebuilding a clutch?
5. Cheapest place to by OE Honda clutch assembly or parts?
Thanks bunches.

Ok, here you go....
1. Pressure plate, disk, and throw out bearing
2. The Pressure plate is bolted on to the flywheel, with the disk in between the two. When you depress the clutch petal, a fork moves the pressure plate off of the disk, which in turn moves the disk off of the flywheel, allowing you to rev the motor freely. The springs in the disk allow smother engagement/disengagment, and the springs/teeth on the pressure plate are the major clamping force over the disk.
3. The clutch does not "grab" any part of the tranny. The disk is connected to the tranny via the input shaft, which has a spline inside to seat the shaft (kinda like an axle). The disk is rotated with the flywheel, sending the power from the motor into the tranny, and then out to the wheels.
4&5. I would just buy a new clutch assembly, instead of rebuilind anything. You can find one at your local Honda dealer, or any automotive parts store.
Hope this helps...if anyone can add anything, or correct me on anything, please do, but to the best of my knowledge, this is exactly how it works.
