Default newb: Power Steering question / issues

First time out on the track and other than mastercraft tires, my power steering was the only issue I had trouble with...

Car: 97 Base prelude w/ mild susp setup.

Track: Shifter Cart Track, two cars wide in straights and banked turns. Very tight in some places. Fastest time of the day was 30sec so its mildly small. This is NOT an oval track, rights & left hand turns, etc..

Problem: through the tight turns, s-curve's etc my power steering would fail. Once back on the straight or mild turn it would return. After a couple hours I ended up losing my PS belt later on in the day. The belt completely came apart, was in good cond before hand mind you...

Question: How can I prevent powersteering loss? Fluid over heated? Prevent destroying another belt? I know the belt , etc was in perfect cond. before.

Cliffs: Powersteering failed through the mulitple turn segments of the track , eventually the belt broke. Prevention methods?

You don't have the Super Handling package

Maybe the belt was loose the whole time. I'd replace the belt. P/S doesn't always like autocross tracks anyway.

I def dont, I know the belt was taught and in good shape thou...

Im wondering if a different size pulley, aftermarket etc would make the difference.

Perhaps your P/S belt was too tight? Had a similar thing happen to me with an alternator belt - it was less than a month old, but the higher RPMs seemed to set it off because I made it too tight on the install.. The belt shredded itself apart.

Both of mine were completely destroyed, one broke the other while splicing the crank sensor harness It happened so quick it makes me wonder next event the same thing will occur.

Hunting the solution. Might loosen the replacments.

All 5th gen Preludes have a hard time with the power steering in tight slaloms if taken at high RPM and/or not taken smoothly. The easiest solution is to go up to the next gear where the RPM will not be as high and drive smoother. Don't know why your belt came off though.
