Which grease for repacking vss?
Our 91 accord has fairly low miles. Because it seemed to be acting up, we took apart the vss but everything inside looked like new. At ://techauto.te.funpic.org/vss.php they say to repack the vss with contact
grease (then later they say to use conducting grease). We bought a very expensive tube of carbon conducting grease but are now thinking this might not be the right stuff to use. A glob of the black original grease was tested with an ohm meter and showed TOTAL RESISTANCE unless the probes were touched together in the grease. Durablend wheel bearing grease and Permatex dielectric grease showed a similar reading. The carbon conducting grease of course showed zero resistance across an inch of grease. Would appreciate knowing what type and brand of grease has worked for others?

Talked to the Honda Parts Dept and they don't have a clue as to what grease to use. They say they don't carry anything specifically for that. Don't think Honda wants you to fix or repack the vss units. They would rather sell you a new one for $157. It is super simple operation to remove 3 screws, take the cover off then clean and repack IF YOU KNEW THE RIGHT GREASE TO USE! There is only one moving part inside. Turns out there is nothing wrong with our vss and it looks perfect inside. We found out the drive link is not spinning even when the tires are turning, so we probably need a new vss gear shaft. If anyone has repacked a vss unit we would sure appreciate finding out which grease worked for you? We're considering dielectric but don't know if it will work or lubricate well enough.
