Default Clutch Arm movement/ trouble shooting

I own a 1988 Crx Si w/ JDM B16a swap. I have been having problems shifting and getting it into gear since the swap. The tranny seems to be fine, but it is a clutch problem or mabye it is the pressure plate or TOB.

I'm trying to trouble shoot the problem before I rip everything apart. So I'm hoping that you guys might be able to help!

Ok here is a picture of the clutch pivot arm ( W/ the clutch cable taken off ) in the resting position. Now from the resting position to where it gets hard to pull up is where I have illistrated in red. There is SOOO much play untill it puts pressure on the TOB. I would say 2/3's of the total travel is just loose. Then with the clutch cable maxed it will just hardly go into gear.

Now here is a picture it pulled all the way up.

Here is a over all picture of my engine bay b/c it's sexy

It's suppose to be like that when you do the swap, because they say "some companys" that when you do the swap you have to use a 90/91 integra clutch cable itself for the proper adjustment. They also say you can use your stock clutch cable but it will be tight and very annoying in stop and go traffic, plus it's more prone too breaking sooner anyways.

I used a 90 Integra clutch cable. I also just replaced it with a new one. It was not the problem.

I wan to know if that much travel is normal, or what might be causing that much travel?

the travel seems normal to me too. the looseness in the arm you will have. but you should have about 2" that the arm moves that it is actually doing something. ( hard resistance after the play in the lever ) but you shouldnt feel the play in the lever on your foot when the cable is attached. if you do you've got something wrong and pull it apart.

I had the same promblem with my b16a swap, this is my experience i had measured, and cut my old links to fit, and when i got them welded they were twisted 5 degrees off and it was a bitch to put in gear, very hard when the adjuster was tighten all the way, if you did weld your own links you might want to check it out, lay them flat on the ground and make sure it lays flat. And if you didnt....i dont know. once i had it working again a year later my TOB little metal rod that pushes it out one side broke, so it was putting half pressure on the pressure plate. Thats the only advice i can give off my own personal experiences with getting the car in gear.

When my car was off it shifted fine then the sceond i turned it on it got really hard, I even broke a shifter **** so if you cant find anything else take off the links and see if they lay flat. you have to take off the links to drop the trans anyway so take a look at it.

My D16a6 is just like that. I have a lot of play and I was wondering the same thing.

Try loosening the cable so the cable has about an 1/2" of slack when you pull on it and the arm is resting in the upmost position where the arm is resting on the t/o and pressure plate.

This will move the clutch engagement toward the floor. This is the proper adjustment.

However I can get into all my gears smoothly. I am sorry I have to tell you what you don't want to hear...You have to inspect it. Could be internal too.

clutch on my swap works great, and it has LOTS of free play in the arm like what the O.P. is describing (with the cable unhooked)

I had the same problem you have to tighten it a real lot even after the free play is gone. I ended up adjusting it then using a pry par to pry the lever up to get it to go on and be super tight.
