Default Replacing axle... ran into alot of problems... please help, i have to get it in by tomorrow afternoo

So my passenger side axle was making alot of sounds and was definately broken, so I went to autozone and had them order me the axle I needed. Here are the steps I took to get it out

Jacked up the car(98 lude base)
took off the tire
took off the axle nut
removed the castle nut undrerneath the lower balljoint
broke off the balljoint
removed the through pin on the lower fork
pulled the broken axle out.
compared it to the new one, looked about the same dimensions, the new one had an extra cv joint rubber flap on both joints, but I didnt think much of it (should they look EXACTLY the same?)

I slid the new axle between the strut and fork, which was difenately a pain in the *** since I could just move the strut to the side like in my accord(which I found odd) and got it to go in easy, now reassembely, I decided to tighten the balljoint first, but no matter how hard I tried I just could not get it to get where it belonged, the closest I could get it was about a 1/4 inch away from where it belonged, tried everything I could to get it in and I couldnt....

what am I missing here guys should I have lostened or removed something else? Ive only done axles in my accord, but it was just about the same, something different from a 96 accord to a 98 lude?
This car is also a Manual Tranny, any extra steps or something? help!

Something msut be missing... please, please please help!

-Jon

have you slid the axle through the knuckle yet? You should do this first and thighten an axle nut a bit and then try to tighten the lower balljoint.

Got a picture?

Make sure the axle is fully seated into the transmission. Then check the hub side if it's sitting flush.

Otherwise, you probably got the wrong axle.

you should have removed the inner bolt on the lca.

you can move everything around easier that way.

you don't even have to disconnect the lca from the knuckle
