Default Track Tires - Heat Cycling and Shaving?

The Tire Rack offers heat cycling and shaving for their track tires. Are these worth the money in additional treadlife, or not worth it?

I use Yokohama A032R or Kumho V700 Victoracer track tires on my ITR and my NSX in HPDE events on road courses. I'm not trying to get the ultimate tenth of a second on lap time, just trying to do well on the track without having tires wear out after every event.

Yes. Yes. Shaving the tires will get rid of tread squirm. The extra tread doesn't do anything for you on the (dry) track but wear out the tires. You will also gain a more responsive tire. Heat cycling will definitely help the tires last longer. The set of tires that I have on the car right now has 6 hours of racing plus at least 3 full track days. I expect to get at least another 3 hour enduro out of them. If you are in N. CA, you might consider contacting AIM for tires. http://www.aimtire.com 205/50/15 Toyo RA-1 are $145 shaved.

Im gonna have to agree to all that. I broke in a full tread set of kumhos and they just overheated like crazy. Talked to the other guys running Kumhos (most the ppl I am friendly with run hoosiers anyway) and they all agreed that having them shaved is a must. i guess thats why its recommended to not shave em for autocross since you want tires to heat up quicker. i pretty much wasted this set of kumhos, just hoping to run em down with low starting pressure and get some practice out of em. Im gonna try Toyos next.
