Important notice:
As of August 1 2006 the 06 Civic Si reflash has been upgraded. Problems addressed:
Hesitation in first gear
RPM hang when shifting
Improved handling of mass air flow sensor errors P0101 & P0102
Improved handling of Coolant temperature error P0116
Improved handling of Secondary oxygen error P0137
This upgrade is available only to existing Hondata 06 Civic Si reflash customers who have paid for a reflash.
You must send the following items to directly to Hondata:
ECU
A signed copy of this form
Cashiers check or money order only, for $75
it's honda's problem...not hondata's.

what caused the DBW lag/rev hang issue:
datalogged the issue and it showed the throttle correctly returning to zero on liftoff. The ECU, however kept feeding fuel to the engine instead of shutting off the injectors.
We have tested the new program on out two 06 Civics and it is a definite improvement
- All new reflashes incorporate the RPM hang fix.
- Recommended mods are as listed on the web site
- No change to the pollution output
- These changes are the official Honda changes.
- The upgrade only applies to existing reflash owners
honda will offer a fix(cuz this is an official honda fix hondata is offering)....but if u have the reflash it will more than likely erase it...this is the reason why hondata is probably charging to upgrade...cuz they can keep ur reflash...all new reflashes will have the upgrade in it already though.....
if u don't have the reflash...u'll get the fix for free from honda(more than likely)...

They fixed their older program.
If it would have been an OEM thing, Honda surely would have recalled something that serious by now.

So I am guessing that if I were to get hondata sometime in the near future, the rev hang would be fixed along with these other problems?

Id make sure the version of the software already had that hangup fixed.
Im still thinking about that 75 bucks though. Hondata must think you guys are crazy.

I know it says as of august 1st but I wonder since I just sent out my ECU for reflash last saturday if they fixed it when it came in or if I have to cough up another 75 bucks to have it fixed. It was reflashed either the 24th or 25th. So I wonder if they have your ECU now they aren't gonna do the new reflash. I emailed them hopeing to get some enlightenment
how did they create the problem?

My point is this. You paid for the Hondata reflash. If it cause a RPM hangup, that wasnt there before, why should I pay another 75 bucks for them to fix it.
Its obviously not an issue on stock cars, so it just doesnt make sense.

It was there before though. It is there on all stock cars. Hondata left the same program that was in your car stock, they just moved the vtec point lower, raised the rev limit and advanced the cam angle. Everything besides that is identical to the stock program. HONDA just fixed their rev hang problem...so now that they did hondata has the improved program as well. You can go to honda and have it fixed for free but it will erase the reflash. That is why you send it to hondata to get the new and improved reflash (without rev hang). Understand now?

Dude read the posts.....hondata didn't cause the problem......it was a flaw in honda's original setup.......think before you hit that post button

Yes, BUT if you have the HONDATA reflash already, HONDA will overwrite it and you will be left with a stock ECU. HONDATA has incorporated HONDA's fix into their new flashes and is offering you the option to upgrade to the new flash for $75.
If you do not have the HONDATA reflash yet, you can get the new one for whatever the retail price is and it also has the rev hang fix HONDA just upgraded.
This is one of those optional fixes Honda throws out, like the gear grinds.

Thank you! I will prob have Honda fix the hang, then here in a couple of months do the Reflash with Hondata.

I could be wrong here, but I think a couple people are confused.
The Rev hang was NOT a Hondata issue. The rev hang is related to the "drive by wire" technology and was present in ALL stock SI's.
Honda has a fix for this problem, which is reflashing the ECU with a revised program. But, if you have already had your ECU reflashed by Hondata for performance, the Honda reflash to correct the rev hang will ERASE the Hondata program.
What Hondata is doing is offerring a cheap solution for those who have the Hondata reflash. Again, this is a Honda issue, why should Hondata take it in the shorts?
Basically, here are you options:
If you do not have the Hondata Reflash - Take the car to Honda and get your ECU reflashed
If you do have the Hondata Reflash - You are 3 options.
1. Take the car to Honda and have them reflash your ECU for free. With this option you get the rev hang issue fixed, but you can kiss the Hondata performance changes good-bye, along with the $600 you paid for them.
2. Pay the $75.00 and have Hondata reflash your ECU (Assuming you already had the Hondata Reflash done). With this option you get it all. All the Honda issues resolved and keep the performance gains.
3. Do nothing.
At least, this is the way I understand the original post.

well jsut called honda and they just said, "the rev hang is normal" and left it at that. Anyone have a service bulletin # or something with more info from HONDA on this issue and if they are offering the fix nationwide?
Im confused... are we talking about how the car holds revs artificially when you change gears? I thought that was part of hondas 'feature' list to help new manual tranny-ers to drive a stick. Did they just play off a flaw as a feature? Or Am i confused?

Typically, it's done to help emissions. When you lift off the throttle, fuel flow continues for a short period, but much less air is entering the cylinders. The A/F ratio goes really rich, and the exhaust is full of unburned fuel. The solution is to artificially keep the throttle partially open longer to burn the extra fuel. This is why the revs "float" briefly when you abruptly lift.
Apparently, Honda has modified the ECU program to either lessen this behavior or to make it less noticeable. Hondata has adopted the changes also.
