Default Push starting when battery dies...

Hey guys, has anyone here push started a 600rr? My battery died after my lunch break here at work, and no one has cables (my Plan B).

Should a good roll down the hill do it? TIA for some feedback.

How about somewhere flat? If you don't get it started down the hill, you may have a long push back up the hill...

Put the bike in gear (2nd, as suggested, is good). Get up to a brisk pace (you'd be holding the clutch in, of course), and drop the clutch. Be sure the key is "on" and the ignition is on "run."

Just dont ever try and bump start a twin with 100mm pistons... This is the true advantage of the inline fours, beign able to bump start the bike GP style

4" diameter pistons ftw btw why in 2nd? I've done it in my car a couple times but never tried it on my bike. I did have it die once early on when I had my r/r issues but I was going about 50 at the time and it was an easy clutch back up to get it started again

I thought you guys ran 97mm bores.

I know of a certain Honda engine that has 100mm pistons though

when my battery died i just put it in first gear and turned the bike on and had someone push the bike to about 8-9 mph and then i'd dump the clutch and give it some gas.

also, speaker wires usually made good jumper cables for me

well 2nd gear, for some reason, seems to start at lower speeds than first. youd have to be around 8mph to start off in 1st, i can just push and go down my drive way and probably hit 5mph and it'll start up in 2nd. *shrug* but it works.

first gear will physically spin the engine easier... but second or even third in some app's, will turn the engine farther along it's combustion cycle for every foot/distance traveled... it's up to you which to use

the rectifier on my RR went bad and I had to push start my bike like 10 times one saturday.. 2nd gear, clutch in, roll bike then let the clutch out, when you hear the engine turn give it a little gas and pull the clutch back in.. it'll fire right up. I became a pro at it

Actually you've got it backwards. Top gear is the easiest gear for the "the tire to spin the engine" and 1st will provide the most engine rotation per distance travelled, but will be very harsh and likely just skid the tire. Just to be a correcting *******.

On my F4i I have to push it up to 8mph, and in 1st gear. I never tried it in 2nd. The last time I did it I smashed my gooby jumping back on the bike.

Ok funny story time, I was stopped on the 5 because of really bad traffic, this area of the 5 has very narrow lanes so I couldnt lane split through safely. My bike started getting really hot and the fan came on but it was just getting really hot. I was stopped for a while so I thought maybe I should just shut down and let the bike cool but in the back of my mind I thought maybe I shouldnt just in case I cant get it started again there is no shoulder. Well, the temp gauge jumped up another 2 degrees so I decided to shut it down. Well as soon as traffic started to move a little I tried to start and the engine started to turn over but didnt have enough juice. Ok so now Im fucked. Traffic is crawly forward so I let the car in front of me get far enough ahead and hope no one merges into my lane. I jump off and start running with the bike and finally I get it up to speed and jumped on and dropped the clutch. VRRRROOOOM I took off like a bat out of hell. I had an embarassed smile because I felt like an old school GP racer.

I just rode my friend's newly bought 00 kawi home for him and had that low kawi idle stalling issue (and had some issues with the idle set screw until i got it into the garage) and had the engine die on me about 10 times.

so i'm rolling down colima when i hit a red light, clutch in to stop and the engine dies. double downshift while breaking and pop the clutch. i guess i downshifted too much because i lose the back end doing about 20 and nearly shat myself.

but i kept it upright and just as i slowed down enough the engine came on.

then i dropped it pulling into my driveway. I'm glad i was wearing my boots because my foot + ittybitty frame slider saved the day (fairings).
