Sohc vtec problen-------------Wire to obd1? or get a Fields vtec controller?

I have a crx with a d16z6 with si ecu and a vtec activated switch, i know i will make more power if i wire the vtec ecu in? but what if i get a fields vtec crontroller will that be as good as wiring to obd1?

sorry to ask you this did you ever get the answer to this. b/c i have a sohc with vtec head and i would like to get the vtec to work and i have the sohc si ecu and would like to just get the vtec controller to make it easy on me. please help if you can.
