Ok a buddy of mine just got his ctr eg back on the road. All it need was a ecu which he bought from cananda. Forget what ecu it is but its the canadian spec. He just called to tell me that his car died on him. It turns over but not cranking anymore. What should I look for??

 

Check for spark and fuel.

 

I know its getting fuel. He said something about the gas has been in there for a year. think that could be it. He also informed me that he has the sohc injectors in there???

 

It could possibly be bad guess but I dont think so. Is it getting spark?

 

not realy sure. I suppose so b/c hes been driving it for the past day or 2. It runs for a while then it cuts off and wont crank again??? he wasnt able to get it over to my house b/c it cut off on him so he triple A'ed back home. IM confused.....??its not throwing any codes??

 

is the alternator charging correctly? might just be running off battery power then dies how does it run when it is working (bogging?)

 

he said it runs great. He hit vtec with me on the phone yesterday and it sounds just like it use to. I think it may have something to do with his injectors, fuel or something around that area. If he ever gets it over to my house I will check all that stuff. He did throw some kind of tps code or something dealing with the intake manifold???? im not sure. Cant really call anything b/c I still havnet seen the car. Just trying to see if I can get ti well enough to come over. He lives about an hr away.

 

He blown a head gasket. From 1-4 was: 150,70,70,150. That has been replaced and now he is throwing 2 codes. one is a IAT light and the other is a tps code. His vtec isnt engaging as well. I asked if he had messed with it while he was replacing the gasket and he said no. He should be coming over this wedns. or thurs.

hope I can find the problem. Hate to see a type-r not running right

Check the TPS sensor. That is more than likely why VTEC isnt engaging fully. Is the IAT sensor plugged in?

haha. Thats all I have of the avatar...sorry. But I have asked him both of these questions and he said yes they are plugged up. He said something about the ctr doesnt have this sensor??? not really sure if that is true or how to by-pass it. And I too figured that the tps sensor is causing the vtec to not engage. doesnt the haynes manual tell you how to check it??? something with the ohms meter??
