Default Fit Or Civic?

Hi,

I've tried to search this topic, but none was found. Anyway, I'm seriously considering getting a new vehicle soon, and as I've mentioned in another thread, I really like the Fit. However, I still think that Honda is overpricing the Fit. Somebody has even done a somewhat non-technical cost comparison
http://www.auto123.com/en/comm...61ece

not that I totally agree his comparison method, but he's got a point there.

To me, if you don't get the Fit sport package, the car really doesn't look all that good. Problem is.. the moment you go for the sport package, the price of this little Fit actually gets higher than a Civic DX-G!!!

Just wanted to see the what you think here.. Would u get a Fit Sport or a Civic DX-G?

Thanks.

Michael

This is what it boils down to. If you need the versatality of a hatchback, then go for a Fit. If you dont plan to take advantage of the cargo space, then a Civic is a better choice.

I was in the same position as you and literally it boiled down to what the man above me had said. I need the space. I need the good gas mileage with that space. So the choice was made and I now own a Fit and am very happy with my decision.

Either car will make you happy in the end. I am almost sure of that.

I agree... For 95% of the time I am using the car for transportation and on-the-road performance; for only 5% of the time I will need the space for moving stuff; should I sacrifice 95% for the 5%?

btw, jo3blo3..

did you get the fit sport? or the LX? How do you like the handling of the car? How does it perform in terms of acceleration and conering?

thankx.

Well, I am assuming you to be in BC from the LX option available to you and not us here in the US.
I opted for the Base model non-Sport as I found the Body Kit on the Sport not all too appealing and like the look of a Base model with mods.

Acceleration is as good as expected from a 1.5L. (not very well)
Handling and Cornering is excellent. (especially with wheel replacement and lowering the vehicle)

well said. here in US we don't have LX we just have either base or sport fit. Also, those prices are canadian dollars and of course that's higher then US dollars.

I was in the same position, either getting a base model 06 civic or a fully loaded 07 fit. I like 2 carry around passengers (when i go out at night or siblings n stuff) and i drive almost 45+ miles a day to my job and i needed a car that could transport lots of stuff and have great gas mileage. I ended up w/ the fit b/c it is one year newer and its new to the US so people are usually in awe when they see it...specially when it's fixed up.

Another big plus were the options that come standard stock with the Base model Fit versus the zero options that come stock with the low end model Civic.

I like A/C and Power Windows.

thanks for the sharing koolkevin1107 and jo3blo3...

yeah, looks like that's what I'm inclined to do too. I drive 60km to work round trip too.. and a lot of highway driving..

I figured that with a Civic, I can get a better acceleration which is important for hwy driving.. besides, I am so so tired of people giving me fingers, cutting in front of me, and tail-gating me. I think it's the "image" or stereotype of one's car. I currently drive an Echo, but what they don't know is that because of the VVTi engine, the Echo can actually give lots of power at high rev., I can still feel the pushing g-force at 130km/h. When the stupid ignorant bum on the road who thought they're driving a fast car saw a car like mine, they just looked down on you and treat you like crap; they cut, they force, if they can't pass, they finger, and I'm so tired of it. (I used to drive a civic; I can heel-toe and I can "drift". My civic was stolen, so because of availability and family reason, I bought the Echo, and I now wanted to stop the humiliation)

enough whining.. anyway, I just wanted to have a car that has enough horse power to protect myself.

Back to the topic.. I actually do like the look of Fit, and I like hatchback.. so, suppose I get the Fit… what’s the modification that can give me more horse power?? And better cornering (except lowering the car, coz I sometimes want to drive it in terrains that hurt lowered cars) What’d be the cost? Needless to say, looking at a fit and a civic mean I don’t have too much budget, otherwise, I’d be looking at a RX-8, or something like that…

Thanks.

If you get a Fit and are concerned about performance here is what I recommend.

Power:
1) Get a manual Fit. If you really want faster acceleration, then this is the way to go.
2) I/H/E. Unfortunately, I dont think there is much power to be tapped from the L15.

Cornering:
1) Replace OEM all season tires with either High Performance All Seasons or Summer Tires.

Yeah for the power intake and exhasut is the best right now. I don't know of any RELIABLE company that has made a set of headers for the car but once they do, that's another mod. Also, here on Honda-tech, Aspec racing has a b-pipe that they are gonna b working on so that wil unleash some more hp. But yes get it in manual it's 2 seconds faster in the quarter then the auto so that means u can accelerate faster.
