purpose of after market steering wheel
I know this is a totally noob question and i searched in the prelude forum with unsuccessful results, but what is the purpose of buying and installing an after market steering wheel like momo, besides the extra grip (or even a steering wheel from an s2000)??? I test drove the 06 civic ex model and wow, the steering is very responsive and kinda fun, would installing a different steering wheel give the same kind of feeling like the new civic or something? cause my steering wheel feels slugish sometimes and i have a 5th gen. Thanks

because it makes the ricers feel like racers, plain and simple. aftermarket steering wheels have the same effect as 4pt harnesses w/ stock seats: they give your car the "racing" look without actually being a race car. If you drive solely on the street, there is no real benefit.
That said, if you actually take your car to a track (and I mean a track w/ turns, not a 1/2mi long strip of asphalt) then a smaller, quick-release steering wheel benefits you in the following ways:

what I dont understand is why would anyone want to get rid of their airbags? in my case if it wasnt for knowing that I was going to loose the key saftey feature in my car I would have done it along time ago
i'd personally get a steering wheel just to get rid of the air bags. in my experience and in others that i've heard, they do more harm than good. plus, weight reduction.
i'd also get one to bring the wheel closer to our chest for people like me with short arms and long legs.

x2. I hate airbags, but I don't care for the look of racing wheels, so I'm trying to get the JDM '92 wheel

There was one on ebay for 40shipped...It went off though.

theoretically you should have racing seats and racing harnesses as well. In the event of an accident, an airbag will do you no good when you have a racing harness holding you from going anywhere.
oooo....some interesting comments. It is true that i would never want to get rid of airbags with stock seats and seat belts. But besides the larger diameter of our steering wheels, is there any other reason why preludes feel so sloppy?? My sister just got the new civic and it seems like it has a much more precise steering, maybe my car is just getting old....iono but thanks for the inputs
for the 4th gen's at least we have the first gen srs which are known to deploy to fast and actually can harm you in an accident.....they have fixed the problem with second gen srs but it's something to think about
yeah, a proper seat belt should hold you in your seat anyway. i've been in a few accidents and the seat belts held me just fine.
my lude feels wicked tight in the front end (like most hondas). maybe you're due for new bushings and ball joints.

I've always hated airbags. My 5G is the first car I've owned with SRS and I'm a little frightened of it to be honest. I worry more about my girlfriend because she isn't too fond of seatbelts, and I always tell her if she gets in an accident the airbag could blow her head off because without a seatbelt on, she'd be too close to the wheel when the thing goes off. (Or something like Final Destination 2)
but the thing is that i have driven the 2004 civic alot and the steering doesnt feel anything like the new civic at all. And supposetly the new civic is several hunderd pounds heavier than the older civic. .....i dont know maybe i am just nutz
