i believe it acts as a sorta valve that lets fuel in or maybe out i forget... if you crank the car slowly by hand with the fuel pump on you can actually see the screw in the middle moving in and out.

funny you mention the aem fuel rail. so you must know where it goes. i actually replaces mine with a braded hose from filter to an fitting on fuel rail. just looked so much cleaner then old crap on a nice new rail

I get the rail today but I didnt know what that piece was or what it does.
its cleaner and it keeps the fuel flowing free. the stock banjos are kinda restrictive. but thats only a problem if you need seriouse fuel to the motor. but i noticed doing the an fittings and lines, my fuel pressure was way more stable.i ran a stanless line to a AEM filter then to rail then had the aem reg.

the fuel pump pumps with an uneven pulse. that piece dampens that pulse and makes the fuel delivery to the rail more of an even flow to the injectors...

yeah i got stainless steel lines. if you got those u don't need it, u can get it a junkyard for nothing. make sure it has the washer with it. that way it won't leak

pulsation dampeners are on all FI cars. when the injectors open and close they end up making the fuel in the system surge forward really fast. the dampener softens the effect of this pulse so that the other fuel injection parts dont experience a constant hydrolic hammering effect.
on Rx7s this part often fails and ends up leaking fuel onto the exhaust manifold. hot exhaust + fuel = Crispy7. there have been hundreds of debates that have not been settled on clubrx7 on whether or not it is really a needed part. no one can prove how long injectors will last if you take it out versue leave a good working one in. thing is for them it costs a pretty penny. the people who are for leaving it in say if you take it out you will shorten the life of the other FI parts and also have the possiblility to run rich or lean depending on which cycle of the pulse you hit it on. people who say take it out (me included when i had my 7) say, FI parts are cheaper than rebuilding a burned out shell and that the rich/lean condition would only effect a seriously tuned engine.
