My brother is looking to buy a del Sol, but he doesn't really know anything about Hondas are cars at all really. Is there a website that shows pics of the different D-series engines so he can know what he's looking at when he sees pics on eBay and other places? I personally don't know all the differences myself, except that the D16Z6 valve cover I believe does not actually say VTEC on top.

 

try D-Series.org buddy... heaps of D series info...
Also the D16Z6 does have the VTEC honda word on the rocker cover, while the D16Y8 just has HONDA on the rocker cover... if you want, just post a pic of what your brothers engine looks like and we can help identify what it is.

He doesn't have a del Sol yet. I was just hoping to find a single webpage that had pics of each engine that I could refer him to so he'll know what he's looking at when he goes to look at various cars, or looks at them on internet ads and stuff.

For instance, I don't know off-hand how to tell the difference between D15 and D16 non-VTEC engines just by looking at the valve covers (I know B-series motors not D's)

haha if he had one already I would just tell him to look at the engine code.

 

intake manifolds, spark plug placement, valve covers and if it has a vtec solenoid can usually pinpoint which motor it is.
