Default does gearing affect your dyno #'s?

Just as the title asks, Does gear ratios affect the torqe and HP numbers you put out on the dyno? If I have a b16a with a 95 gsr tranny would my hp and torqe numbers be lower than if I was running a b16 with a b16 tranny?

Your transmission should have nothing to do with your HP or torque ratings. Gearing changes your accelleration and top speed.

no gearing wont ahve anything to do withi t, like the other poster said, it will effect top speed and gearing ratio.

not on a dyno does it have to do with the numbers

however a good geared transmission along with a good clutch is how you will get the power you make on the dyno to the street

It SHOULD matter. That's why the dyno operator has to know your gearing. They'll tell you what gear to put it in, then tell you to hold some particular RPM. That's how the operator knows your gearing. If they do that procedure wrong, your numbers will be messed up.

Aside from that, some trannys might have more friction than others. But probably not much different.

I'm not exactly sure how a dyno calculates the numbers you get, But I thought it had something to do with how fast you get the roller up to speed. So that is why I thought that the lowering gearing might make some difference.

The gearing WILL affect that primary measurement, but the calculation of torque & power takes that back out. The operator HAS to find your overall gearing, even if he doesn't realize it. When he records the drum speed at some particular engine RPM, he is doing exactly that.

yes, gearing matters for sure. Why do people change their final drive ratio? B/C you get more torque. The same is w/ the tranny, you can change the ratios in the tranny to get more torque or if you want more speed, then you can do some crazy high ratio like a .5 for 5th gear, this will give you a higher top speed, but will give u less torque in 5 the gear.
