Default Best mod evaR!

Just thought I would share my quick thoughts on the JDM 4.7 into my 97 JDM ITR tranny.

It is by far the BEST thing I could have done to the tranny. Along with the final drive I have installed all new bearings and the thing is running like a gem. The final drive is exactly what I needed. For all you hardcore 4.9'ers I think that would have been a little much for me, but who knows. I traded my 4.4 straight up with a buddy for his 4.7. He was in much need of longer gears, and I was in need of shorter gears so everything worked out great.

I don't even feel like I NEED more power because everything feels right the way it is now. (Ok, a little more power wouldn't hurt )

If you're contemplating this swap then DO IT! If you're local I'd more than willing to help for fun.

does 97 JDM itr have 4.4 FD on it?. i thought they were 4.7.. learned new thing agian. lol

well i JUST went from 4.4 FD to 4.9. D in my USDM tranny.
i never took it to the track yet .
i love how it drives on city and stuff but deft. not on the highway. 5000 rpm = 140 km. it revs too high .lol

I've also went from a 4.4 fd to the 4.7 fd. Throttle response is amazing, imo its more than enough for the street.

I prefer my 96spec 4.4 FD. I have driven UK and 98spec ITRs and yes acceleration is slightly better in lower gears but i think 4.7 is too short in 5th gear and the engine is revving to high at cruising speeds. My gearbox is so sweet that i dont want to do anything to it, sort of 'not broken, dont fix it, thinking.

I'm not really sure what you guys have over there, but 98+ spec JDM ITR trannies are at the same RPM as a stock 4.4 tranny. They have different 4th and 5th gears.

Have you driven in a 96 spec with the 4.7?

Yea, not wanting to tear apart a perfect tranny is pretty understandable

just raise your redline

if you have a 9k redline with a 4.77 or a 9.5k redline with a 4.9, than you're all set

98+ jdm tranny 4.7 FD . Makes the car feel like it has torque. I would love to have the 4.9 FD in a type r tranny.

wth are you talking about? 98 spec trannies have super long 4th and 5th gears to make up for the 4.78 final. 5th gear cruising revolutions will be the same in a ITR tranny with 4.4 and 4.78
