Default JDM Type R 4.7 final drive

I have a jdm97 ITR and I'm planning on installing a 4.7 final drive. Is there anything else that I would need to convert my 4.4 to a 4.7? If I was to buy the kit from jdmland is that all I will need? Thanks in advance....

For you, IIRC all you need is the ring gear.

IIRC, to switch from the 4.7 to 4.9 thats all you would need. From 4.4 to 4.7 you need all that stuff.

But he's already got the JDM trans. If it was a USDM trans I'd say yes, but you need the JDM 1st gear for the FD.

If he has the 4.4 in his trans he will need
1st gear 23421-P80-E30
Distance collar 23914-P80-E30

Even if it's a JDM trans? IIRC the pre 98's had the JDM first gear, but the 4.4 FD. So I would think that since the first gear is there it's only going to need the FD like going from 4.7 to 4.9

96+ spec JDM tranny is identical to the USDM tranny. He will need the collar, needle bearing, and 1st gear to use the 4.7.

I just did this 2 days ago and it is by far the BEST mod I have done. In fact, I'm so excited I'm going to make my own thread to share my excitement

If I need the first gear, where would I be able to purchase that? If I went with a 4.9FD I would have to buy ATS and there's just too much things to buy to do that modification. I think I might just want to stay with a 4.7

The 4.9 and the 4.7 require the same parts. Are you in Guam? I think http://www.hmotorsonline.com has the JDM listed at $3xx.xx. If you are in Guam then you might be able to go to Honda dealership and get the parts you need over the counter.

What 88 Rex is saying is that your going to need all that is involved with the ATS kit for the 4.7 in your case. The needle bearings, the shaft, the JDM first gear and the Final ring gear.

I bought my 98spec 4.785 FD set from A&J Racing few years back & installed clutch/fw/ITR LSD with that all together. I gotta say that's one of the BEST mod that I had in my EM1. NIGHT & DAYYYYYY difference on response. This FD set is IDEAL for any B16/B18 in relatively stock engine setup.

I went back to J4D tranny a few weeks back. Now I'm the loser staying in lower gear all the time, and my bro has all the fun.

I've got a new Jdm first gear set ( needed for the 4.7 or 4.9 conversion). I'm willing to sell it. PM me if you're interested

JDM first gear? If my ITR is a 97JDMITR is it a must to replace mine if I go with a 4.7 or 4.9?

Someone is offering me a ATS complete 4.9 for a really good price of $850.00 shipped. Do you think I should go with that deal?

i think. if 97 has 4.4 . that's probably same as usdm one?
so i am guessing you still need the jdm first gear?

i dont know for sure tho.

you are correct. all jdm itr trannies before 98 spec are identical to any year usdm itr tranny. this includes 4.4 final drive and closer 4th and 5th gears.

that means, when upgrading to 4.7 or 4.9 final in any year usdm itr tranny or 97 and earlier jdm trannies, you will need the final drive as well as the shaft, + the jdm 1st gear, distance collar, and needle bearing as they are sold in a "kit."

Yes you do need all of this and a lot of time to install. Its not as easy as just changing the ring gear.
Just a hint but i would buy new bearings, we have had a few issues with the re use of the old ones that you must remove and install on the new shaft. Just my .02..
