Default Honda Day BFG Super Challenge Rules 8/12

BF Goodrich Tires Super Challenge:

The Super Challenge will consist of 3 time trials at the quarter mile dragstrip and 3 time runs at the autocross course. The combination of the two events will determine the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place finishers. Your score will be determined by how well you perform in each of the events. For example if you finish in first place in the drag racing portion and in third place in the autocross portion you will have a total of 4 points (2 points will be the best possible score). The competitor with the least amount of points at the end of the day will win the event. The Challenge is open to all Honda and Acura “street type vehicles” running on BF Goodrich D.O.T. radial tires. No tire change during competition. No cheater slick or semi slick tire allowed EVEN if they have DOT Stamp.

I think you need to very specific about "street type vehicles". Street legal? Carb approved parts? Gutted interior? half gutted interior?
And only Bf Goodrich tires are allowed?

PLEASE specify the type of tire better than last year. What are "cheater slicks"? Last year a bunch of autocrossers show up with Kumho V710's or Hoosiers and were not allowed to compete even though they ARE a DOT radial tire. What was worse was that drag racers were allowed to run drag radials which to me is the drag racing version of our autocross tires...

It was a very frustrating day last year because of this...

ok, so we have to go out and buy a tire SPECIFICALLY for this event? thats the most retarted thing i've ever heard. and i bet chris will win anyway (if nelson or I dont beat him) but seriously, has the super challange turned into a means to generate funds for bfg by requiring its competitors to run thier tire for a once a year event??
-spenc......let the spec-tire bashing begin.

Yeah, tell me about it. I was one of the many DQ'ed. If I go at all I'll just do the regular autox for kicks...

I predict a drag racer winning, one way or another...

I didn't even compete in the BFG Super Challenge last year and I said what a bunch of CROCK rules.

To go changing the rules AT the event while people are already running telling people that their Hoosiers or Kumho V710s were ILLEGAL for the autocross competition because they were not DOT legal (EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE STAMPED DOT LEGAL ON THE TIRE) was the most idiotic thing to announce. But they to take things to the next level the AZENIS RT_615s were deemed illegal too because they were also not DOT legal.

Hello?!? The Azenis are a street tire with a wear rating of over 200.

This is the reason many people I know and personally I'm not going to Honda Day this year. The event has become a **** run event. And too many things go missing or cars stolen because of the lack of security at the event.

I understand you guys were frustrated with the rules. But to make a clarification. The challenge is meant for everyone from your novice to advanced drivers. Now to level the playing field and consider that it is a BFG Sponsored Challenge you can auto-x but to run and win the BFG Super Challenge you must be on BFG. Minimum thread wear of 140.

No Hoosiers or Kumho V710s!

also for street type vehicles it must be street legal meaning that you can drive the car on the street and not get pulled over by cops. For ex. RSX that is daily driven with intake header exhaust is fine.

Fair enough.

Maybe you should add every other tire manufacturer to the list with hoosiers or kumho 710's. This way at least it doesn't sound like you're trying to make us autocrossers lose.

Why do I get the feeling a drag racer with Nitto's drag radial will still be allowed to compete...

So that means no BFG Drag radials?? Yeah, right, your telling me a guy with BFG drag radials will be disqualified.. Sure....

So when someone drives their 400+ hp turboed RSX to the event, knowing that it has fake stickers and not "truly street leagal", it would be OK. But when someone tows their autox car to the event because they drove hours to get there and don't want to be stuck if something major breaks, they will be disqualified.

Wow. This event is going to be messed up.

All the autocrossers I know that are serious about autocrossing tow their cars. Why? Incase they break at the autocross course. Peace of mind.

So to say if you towed it it's illegal is another bunch of BS.

Also I know plenty of cars that are probably not street legal but still able to get there on their own power. So who's the judge of this?

And to say the tread wear has to be over 140 but last year the Falken Azenis were deemed illegal is another mystery to me.

The list of illegal tires should be (under the proposed 140 wear):
Hoosier (all)
Kumho V710s
Kumho VictorRacers
Kumho V700s
Toyo RA1s
Hankook Z211
Michelin Pilot Cups (?)

Probably more but I cannot think right now.

well, i'm done. all i own are r-comps and azenis. although that will give me someing to put on my other wheels.
we definately need clarification on the 'street legal' issue. cause 90% of the hondas at this event will be illegal in some way, shape or form. but dmv rules and regs differ between ny, nj, pa, ct and any other state people may come from to this event. so we need specifics.

-spenc....is gonna win with the 250,000mile single slam beater cause its the only thing he owns that will currantly fit into the new rules

bullshit. plain and simple.

1) every single car that shows up with a fart can exhaust should be illegal and not allowed to compete. try to drive your h00ptie through any town with a potatoe cannon for a muffler and you WILL get pulled. same with lowered cars and nearly anything with a cheap POS ebay bolt on that is not carb approved.

2) a street legal car from NH is a completely different thing then a street legal car from NJ/MA/NY/CT. we'll ignore the fact that i can get sticker on my car and then change anything i want even if it wouldn't pass an inspection.

3) i'll tow my **** down anyhow and just unload at a different parking lot. added bonus? less chance of my **** getting swiped.

i contemplated attending in the past. now? not a snowball's chance in hell and i'll be advising anyone who asks me about this event to pass as well. you've cut the legs out from the fastest guys in the country. this isn't a competition anymore, it's a political circle jerk.

Bravo Nate.

I've attended every single Honda Day since it's inception back in March 2003 (remember cold and overcast with like 50 people attending). The 1st two to three events were fun. I even ran the BFG Super Challenge back in 2004 with my overweight stock engine 00 Civic Si. Got 14th out of 15 cars. Still had fun.

But I think last year when I witnessed the rules changes was the straw that broke the camel's back. No problems with our regular autocrosses, but what I saw during the BFG Super Challenge just made all 3 years past go up in smoke.

I'm also telling people not to go to this year's Honda Day on various forums.

Big ole

So any honda that is registered and has plates would be a street type car?

This is why I won't waste my time driving down from Boston again. I was lucky that nobody gave me **** for being in a street registered rally car last year. Maybe if I had done the whole event I would have been hassled? Luckily I was on street tires, otherwise I might have been found illegal lol. At any rate it just isn't worth it to do an event that has such a 'fluid' rule set.

It's going to be one hell of a "Super Challenge" considering no one will be there to compete now...

So can you autox if you don't have have BFG's? I just want to autox. I don't care about the other shenanigans, and don't really care about the "super challenge." I wish everyone who knows how to autox was going b/c watching fast lines really helps me get my line. Plus meeting peole is always a plus

Does BFG even make a good/cheap autox tire?

Do they even make a tire under $125?

Their only really good autocross tire is the BFG KDs. And those run like $150/tire for 15".

It a shame because I really like the idea of Honda Day. Someone need to organize a "Honda Day" of just autox and a maybe a meet.

Sponsored price I assume? If not, where might I find such a deal? That would definitely seal the deal on whether I should get Khumo's over the Falken. For that kind of price I wouldn't care if they only lasted one season.
