are my tires wearing out too quickly? (Nitto NT01 for autox)
no real heat cycling done
drove them a couple of days on the road without pushing it
mounted the tires first week of january this year
from now until then...its seen about 15 autox events
each event i get about 12-15 50second runs
and it has about a few hundred miles of street use
looking at the wear indicator holes on the tires....it seems like i have almost none left
i mean...the holes are almost gone
i hope they last another 2 autox events
are these tires wearing a little too quickly for what its seeing?

My question is, where the hell are you autoxing that you get 12-15 runs per day?
For YOUR question, pics of the tires would help.

haha
we do it a little differently here on Guam
we dont have a large amount of people who race so we have a lot of time for the whole day
our day consists of practicing in the morning and doing official timed runs after
and if we happen to finish early...we normally get fun runs in the end
there are times when people get to do continuous "laps" around the autox course since nobody is lined up
ill get pics up when the sun comes up here

Uh... NT01s come w/ 6/32 tread unshaved. RA1s come w/ 8/32 unshaved.
4/32 is a mild shave. So ... the tires will look really low after getting
past the tread (the real racing rubber). We're gonna need a pic!

heres the rear one not wiped down..

its not as bad as i thought...i got a few more events on them

To answer your question, I think your tires are wearing normally. You have a LOT of autocross runs on them. And R compound tires don't last forever.
When I have tires that look like yours, I keep using them. Like I said, I keep using mine till the belts show. I don't toss them until the belts show either in a strip at least 1/4 inch wide most of the way around the tire, or one or two spots at least the size of a quarter. How many events will that be, on your tires? I don't know, but with 12-15 runs at an event, yours could wear out at any event. Rotate them by putting the most worn ones on the rear if you want them to all wear out around the same time. And keep a close eye on them.

Practice Runs? Lucky

What AP doesn't have enough guys with AX experience in Preludes? Or R-comps?
Personally, I think you've been pussyfooting around out there:
15 events x 12 runs = 180 runs, x 15 runs= 225,
And as evidenced by the tread depth holes, you still have ALOT of tread.
Comparatively:
V710s make it 125-140 runs to the cord
Hoosier A05s made it half that long.
And that was just CS Miatas.
In light of that you are getting really good wear.

Hoosiers and V710s are known to wear out quicker than pretty much any other R-comp though. I've not seen any review of these, but I'd expect them to last longer than either of those.

Yes.
Yes.
thanks guys thats good comparison
and yea..those are them federal 595RS tires
i did a little review on here before...try searching it
but the sidewalls were a little too soft
grip was pretty good for a street tire tho
i had to pump them up a lot to get any steering response out of them
if i had them longer..i woulda tried more pressure and see if i lose any grip

If you're looking for very good street tires at a bargain price, there are some great deals around right now, so you don't need to buy off brands like Federal.
For example, through mid-August, Kumho offers a $40 rebate on a set of four tires, including its "great bang for the buck" Kumho Ecsta SPT. The rebate brings the per-tire price at the Tire Rack down to $41 in 195/50-15 (for CRXs, del sols, and pre-96 Civics), and $49-52 for 195/55-15 and 205/50-15 (for Integras and '97-00 Civics). Dunlop sells the similar Dunlop Direzza DZ101 for $48 in 205/50-15 and there is a $50 rebate on a set of four, expiring today, bringing the price down to $35.50 per tire.
Both of these tires are excellent for street driving. They offer very good dry traction, excellent wet traction, long treadlife (figure 30-40K miles), and all this at a bargain price. They're not going to stick like the Azenis on a dry track or autocross course, of course, but they cost a lot less and last a lot longer. I was amazed at how well the SPT gripped in the rain at Road America this past spring.

IMO nsxtasy, don't compare the federals to SPT's. SPT's are not in the same cat.
Hell, I remember when everyone was saying "why even use a company like Khumo, just use proven pirellis." Tire market is changing, its compeitition, and its good.
The federals DO have somewhat soft sidewalls, but I liked em when auto-xing. The treadwear is 180. Didnt get greasy. A friend recently got their 265-40-18 for around 130 bucks a tire. Tell me how khumo can compare to that?
However, I thought they only came in 17 and up sizes?
