Default SiR headlights or HIDs?

well i can get both at about the same price. but how expensive is it to install a hid setup into aftermarket projectors? how much can i expect to pay someone? because i have no HID knowledge and how to install them at all or would it be just a better to buy the SiR headlights , can someone show me a picture of SiR headlights brightness at night? thanks so much

I believe it will be cheaper to get the HID's. As far as I know the SiRaccords do not have the same chassi code as the usdm accords. Therefore they will not be a direct fit unless you do some body mods. Now that body mods and proper fitment are an issue, HID's would definately be cheaper.

HID kits are awful in general, i'd stay away from them. Retrofitting HID projectors into your headlight would be the best route for HIDs.

First off, of the list of cars in your sig, what car are you planning on doing this to? You left it pretty vague. 5th gen SiR headlights fit w/ little modification...however the 6th gen won't fit at all w/o major bodywork.

I got a Xenon kit and so far so good. It does cast a bit of glare but I need to re-aim my headlights down a tad.

I plan to do a retro fit eventually, but I got 3-4 car lengths behind another car and aimed my lights at bumper level. That way, being at that distance, your beam expands. It's not all on the ground, but it's not in your window either. Then I test drove it, letting my brother drive my car and I rode in his. From far to near and side to side, I was not being blinded. So it can work, but retro fit is the best way to go. I'll do it sooner or later...

I don't want to sound repetitive, but i agree. Definitely retrofit. I have a 94 Accord with projectors and bought an HID kit for it. I won't lie to you, the difference is really noticeable over standard halogen. Anyone who has used aftermarket projectors knows that they usually dont emit alot of light. But using an aftermarket kit doesn't give you the cut-off like that of a TSX or any other projector beam. Retrofit may be a little more time consuming and expensive but worth it in the long run.

So how are they with the Xenon kit?

The same. They put out less light than you'd expect from an HID projector, but more than the halogen bulb. I've seen different aftermarket projectors produce different outputs with HID bulbs, but none, and I repeat, none of the projectors match the cutoff, color, and clarity of an OEM projector.

Yea it wouldnt surprise me.

I pulled this off of a thread on hidplanet.com.

DEPO projector headlight output.

DEPO projector bowl left, true Valeo HID bowl right

Circles show the dead spots where no light is because of projector design.

This is a DEPO projector with HID...this is about the worst projector output i've ever seen:

DEPO and TYC are both generally regarded as the best aftermarket lighting companies around, so if the quality is that bad, cheaper ones are even worse.

THIS is a crappy eBay projector headlight with HID, taken from hidplanet.

Look at that AWFUL output.

The exact same headlights, with the projector swapped out for an E46 instead of the crappy aftermarket projector.

If you care to go big money, the TL for example, has crazy sharp cutoff and color, as evidenced here:

TL, S2K, TSX, Evo 8 are all known for quality projector results.

I hope it was informative of me, stealing all these pics

I've seen TLs and TSX's on hidplanet.com for about 150 shipped, which is by no means bad. My S2ks were around 250.
