Default prelude shooting fire

alright i have noticed for awile that when i open up the throttle and run through the gears. i hear a liud pop in between gears. so i wasnt ever sure what it was, anyway my friend was like "dude your car shoots fire out they exhaust?" i was like i think thats bad? so heres my setup. Intake, hollow cat, tanabe catback, and an obd conversion from 96 to 93 95, p13 computer. basicly i swapped from obd2 to obd 1 and to my knowledge everything should be the same on the ecu's? i checked my spark plugs today and it look like they had been toasted considering i replaced them 3 months ago. can anyone tell me whats going on or what wrong???

my car shoots flames also its been this way for 3 years in two different preludes..my set up is a jdm h22 with intake, exhaust, no cat, headers and P13. its untuned. because it ran rich and I had money issues I never saw the need to tune it. don't get me wrong I do believe you should always tune.

recently there is a leak in my header gasket between the upper and the lower manifold (if anyone has this gasket let me know, megan, pos, ractive.) because of this my o2 sensor is not getting the right reading and I shoot alot more flames then usual.

no cels.

so it might be fine or you might have a leak somewhere before your o2 sensor.

P.S. when I drive highway miles I get close to 30mpg. so when crusing it must not be that rich.

well part of the problem is you have no cat. and second p13s run rich in the top end.. it happens to some with after market parts it changes the Volumetric effcency of your motor and fueling from the factory is no longer ideal

its because you have no cat-converter. my friends h22 civic did that and he had no cat, no resonator, and no muffler (sounded real good and cops didn't seem to mind...) and he shot flames when he was just cruising around town.

just so there is no misunderstanding, his car sounded like a$$ and the cops were called to his house by the neighbors because his car was so loud!

Yea, shooting fire on a p13 with a decent flowing header, no cat, and exhaust isnt abnormal without a tune.

Theres nothing wrong with ur car man, its just runnign rich.

I was shooting fire when i was fully stock. Now I have custom header + 2,5"exhawst w/no cat +intake w/Greddy Gracer filter +tuned with e-manage and when i change gear a little after the redline just before the rev limiter my exhawst is shooting 1m long fire blast... the entire place lights up...

...all my friens are like WWWOOOOWWWW...

there is a guy i know, races his prelude at hpde events.

well having a straight exhaust for his track caused the car to catch fire. it melted the fuel line near the muffler.

so be careful. and he only drives his car at track events, yall are driving around daily.

So not true. He just needs the newest in engine management to keep the flames away. I recommend the newest in VTEC controllers.

^^^ haha

i used to shoot fire before my tune. i had a test pipe on then too... was also gettin a crap load of black soot on my back bumper.

at night it would flash and light up the bushes around the car. my gf got scared when she was behind me in her civic si and we were merging. she said i tried to kill her by lighting her car on fire.

Yeah thanks a lot for the input guys. I figured it was mostly the hollow cat. Well since its not too bad or anything for the time being I won't worry too much. I think its dope for sure my car does it. So when I get my car tuned its not gonna do it anymore? That's not soo fun. But yeah thanks again for they info. And yeah I think imma use that vtech software above for my luda ha. Thanks again
