battery relocation, fire question
i relocated my battery to the rear hatch. the battery box i got is bigger then my battery but it comes with this plastic flimsy divider. on the other side of the divider is dead space so i stuffed it with a towel so the battery can't push past the divider. is this safe ? i don't wanna cause a fire....
Personally I think a block of wood might be a little better while it can still burn hopefully you would notice it a tad faster and be able to get it out. Do you know anyone that can fab up some metal brackets or anything in there that would be the best situation.
make sure the box is strapped and mounted properly, because while you probably won't have the towel light on fire from the battery directly, a crash will likely rip the battery box off if is just bolted (since its plastic, and the actual battery is only held to the car with a "flimsy plastic divider and a towel"). flying batteries are bad- mount that thing securely.
for the spacer, get another piece of plastic to make a "T" or a "V" behind the flimsy peice, and rivet it to it. Now slip the whole thing in there and you should be good to go.
