New to the motorcycle world
Hey, I just purchased a motorcycle.

Its a 1983 Honda CM450. Don't really know much about the model so if anyone here can help me out that would be great. I am no expert on motorcycles, this is my first one. Just wanted something small enough that i dont kill myself or someone else, and that is easy to learn on, and yet big enough that i can ride on the freeway. So far its a blast to ride, more fun than the 125's they had us riding in the safety class. Ill probably be using the search for a while as i read up on as much as i can. Anyway, cheers!

Nice... Its a honda. can you take a minute and resize your pic please? personally I like them big, like my women, but many around here have small monitor syndrome
take a minute and inspect your tires... they look like they were made in the 80's... when your bike was made. Even if they hold air, it's not really a good idea to putt around on hard rubber, least ye become familiar with ***/phault. You'll have a lot of fun on that thing

Congratulations! Now that you're here, there's no turning back. Mwahahahahahah...
You'll want to check the condition of the tires, brake pads, cables (throttle, clutch), sprockets and chain, and look to see if any fork seals are leaky.
That bike looks like she's in real good shape for an 83.

Thanks for all the welcome's. As on the topic of gear, any recommendations, like i said im totally new to this and dont really know what to look for in the way of jackets or other things.
Checkout http://www.newenough.com The selection is limited but they're descriptions are unparalleled.
Any middle of the road brand is good for starters. Pickup some joe rocket textiles or something that breathes, its preatty warm out right now so leathers are bound to cause heatstroke, joe rocket, teknic, alpinestar all make good entry level stuff....
well some brands have more high end varity, for example, alpinestars stuff can get quite expensive where as joe rocket is generally fairly cheap. It depends what your looking for. You can find a lot of great used stuff online at craigslist as well basically brand new stuff for very cheap....depends how much $$ you have to spend.
If it hasn't been said already (and I don't think it has, in this thread), the most important aspect of gear is how well it fits YOU. Try on several different brands, if you have access to them.
Vanson gear may be more fitting for your style of motorcycle. It's also high quality and looks great.

I always thought vanson was VERY expensive?? Ive never seen it in a store or anything but i was under the impression it was one of the most expensive brands?? I know they are VERY high quality so i just assumed expensive.

Vanson is upper end... Not Helimot upper end, but better end good none the less. this is because of the patterning, better end materials, and construction.
As stated above, proper fitment is very important when you buy protective gear... BUT more than fitment is the materials used and the construction techniques. you can buy the best fitting one piece ever, but if the seams blow apart in a fall that's not going to help you. look for over and top stitching when buy leather goods, gloves/jackets/pants/Suits.

Thanks for all the help guys.
So far everything has been running like it should. Im on the lookout for a riding jacket, and probably some riding gloves. The only downside to the bike is that it has a 2.5 gallon tank which doesnt give me much room for long rides. Other than that all is well.
