Not passing smog do to NO levels to High!!!!
I went to get my DA smogged this weekend and it to the guy like 45 min to try and get my car to pass smog. I just did a oil change, spark plug change, put stock cat on a week ago and my car is not passing smog. Nitriuos Oxide levels are 100 above normal at both 15 mph and 25 mph. This is the only thing stopping me from passing smog and I have been trying to figure it out on why it wont pass. One of my friends said it may be cause my car was still cold cause I only ran it for ten minutes and then it sat there for another 30 before they tested it.
Has anyone ever had a problem like this with there ride. If so how did you correct it?

i just had a simular problem last week, mine was failing hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide terribly bad. i still had the stock cat on, and thecar was sitting for over a year. the cat was obiously burned out, so we decided a new cat and plugs were in order. since the o2 censor plugs into the stock cat, and i wasnt about to buy a new expensive stock one, we purchased a cheap universal cat and cut out part of the pipe right behind the existing one, and welded in the new one. now the car had two cats, hahaha, ghetto. went back the next day and the car passed with flying colors. also in illinois thye do the tests at 30 and 55 mph, probably doesnt make a difference, but thought id mention it. the only reason we ghettofied my exhaust is because im due for a new one anyway, and i needed to pass emmisions to get my liscense back.
thank that may help, not the ghetto rig but new universal cat for my car that holds heat better. i'm going to my local guy to get it checked today see if he may know anything. Thanks again

that is awesome...whatever works i guess. Is your's a 3G? Because on the op's the o2 sensor would be in the header, yours would be in the cat.
Ghetto welding 2 cats together....I'm gonna do that next time, just so I can say I did it. Have some OBD1 cars that can't pass right now.

I don't think changing the cat would matter. NOx is produced when combustion temperatures are over 2500 degrees F. Possibly check you're timing it may be off (adavanced). That would cause it. If it was the cat, you would fail for HC before NOx.
ricey's car failed every test they gave...NOx and hydrocarbons...we add's new plugs and a new cat after the old cat..went back to take the test an hour after we put the cat on and pass'd without a problem.
the people at the test told us that his 70k mile motor was weak..we got scared for a second thinking it might need rings, and a whole bunch of other **** to pass...nope...just a cat and plugs($75worth the parts and a about 1 hour worth the labor)...dont make it more complicated than it has to be

I'm a little pissed now got a new cat installed and still did not pass. My No leves are still the same as I had with my old cat so I'm return that bad boy. Any ideas what it could be now?

Not sure, just left it with the smog guy for 15min came back my car passed. I personal did not change anything after the second time it did not pass. I took it to my friends smog test only center and it passed. Asked no questions.
