Default removing pinstriping from 98 DX this week - potential problem(s)?

I'm going to be removing the black pin striping from my VSM 98 DX this weekend, and am wondering if I'll potentially run into a problem with the adhesive beneath the pin striping not coming off very well w/ goo-gone because the car is nearly 10 yrs old.

The reason I'm asking is due to the fact that I have not done this on a car this old before. Just wondering if any of y'all have had problems with 10+ yr old cars, and if so - what you did to overcome it.

Thanks

p.s. - it's hot as heck here in TX lately, so I plan to let the car sit in the sun for a couple hours to warm up the pin striping and adhesive below, before I peel any off.

I took the pinstriping off my 94 EJ1 with little problem. Go to a place which sells car paint and supplies and get this thing, sorry the proper term has slipped my mind, that goes on a air tool or drill. It is like a big eraser and will take it off in about 20 minutes. Finish up with a little polishing compound, then wax.

It looks like this:

yeah I'd rather stay away from that eraser tool because I have no experience with it and don't want to risk damaging my paint at all but thanks for the recommendation

is it painted on or a sticker type? i read warming adhesive so im assuming its a the sticker type. Use a blow dryer to help heat it up and after its off use warm soapy water to help remove the adhesive still on the car. Wash the car, and wax since like dish sopa strips wax.

potential problem - realizing that someone had clear-coated over the pinstripe at some point.... gets nasty

If you wanna try the rubber eraser thing, get the ones that have fins in them. The solid rubber wheels will burn the paint in an instant...

Me and my friend took the pin stripping off his 95 civic with a razor. We did it when the car was warm, it was easier to take off.

I took the pinstripe off of my gf's '94 Accord not too long ago. It sat in the sun most of the day and I started by picking one end with my fingernail, and it came right off. Slowly. I used a little Goo Gone for some of the adhesive that was left over, washed the area and then polished it.

If you look at it from some angles, you can see a very faint line from where the stripe was, but overall, it looks great considering the car was 12 years old when I removed it.

your definately going to notice where the pinstripe was after you take it off the paint under it hasnt been exposed to sun so it will look newer than the rest of the car...
