well when you think about it the base model can take 87 and the type s takes 91. so i do what the manual recomends. even if it was the base model i still would put 91. Shell gas is the best in my opinion.

I use 91 octane with a little octane booster or fuel cleaner with the mixture. I always do this when I put gas on the car. Never put anything lower than what the manual says or you will be asking for it.
Premium or nothing. It has to do with the compression ratio. It is so high to get the top end horse power that it needs the extra octane to prevent premature combustion and and have a good clean combustion cycle. It also does have more additives that help clean it but that depends on where you get it. As long as it isn't a run down place that isn't even name brand you should be good, just be smart about it.
Lately I've been using regular 87 octane in my EP. Runs fine, and probably burns more completely than higher octanes.
BTW -- I'm old enough that "regular", to me, still means "leaded" gasoline.. lol

barrack, the ep3 came with the k20a3 and afaik, it only requires 87 octane because its a 10:1 compression engine instead of a 11:1. im sure the timings are higher as well. im not sure though.
Barracks Si: Maybe you can use 87 octane driving around 8th & Eye, but when I'm going up that 1/2 mile hill heading toward the rifle ranges at the second Quantico exit I can just faintly hear the subtle rattle of detonation at 3k in 5th gear. 91 octane eliminates it entirely. Semper fi.
