All electrical gurus pleae help with gauge install. (not you rtypical problem)
I have a set of Megan racing gauges that I am installing in my EG. The difference in these gauges from autometer, for example, is that they are tinted. This means that the lights have to be on all the time for them to be visible. However, I want to use the car's dimmer to control the amount of light. So, here is what I want to do:
Gauges wires:
RED= 12V power, connect to constant 12V on car
Purple= Dimmer ???
Black= Ground, connect to ground on car
Blue= temp sender pickup, splice to yellow/grn temp gauge wire behind cluster??
FYI, dimmer has three cables:
red= variable 12v (controls amount of light)
red/blk= 12v when lights are turned on (can't use it because gauges will come on only when lights are on)
blk= ground
Questions:
Should I connect the dimmer cable on the gauge to the 12V variable in the dimmer switch?
Also, can I splice into the yellow/grn temp sender wire behind the cluster?

OK since this was no help whatsoever I decided to figure it out on my own. For future reference, connect:
Gauge wire:
red to constant 12V source from ignition
black to a good chassis ground
Blue to temp sender
Purple to variable 12V on the dimmer (red/blk)
Your gauges will dim by 50% when lights are turned on but you can turn them back up with the dimmer switch. This helps if you race at night.

Red/black is not veritable 12V+ it is a constant 12V+ when lights are on, the red wire is the "controlled" ground from the "Dash Light Brightness controller", [dimmer] to the dash lights, the ground is what is controlled on the dash lights.

Sorry, you are correct. But now there is a new proble. The needles on the gauges are in-betwwen the needle stops. They are stuck there. I did't inspect when they arrived but there is no way of them getting there without taking the gauge apart so they must have been like that from factory. I hope I can get a replacement.
