Default Remote Radar Detector installed, pictures

I asked a question about what kind of bolts to use to help install my remote mount radar detector a week ago or so and you guys helped out. A couple wanted to see pics when it was done, here they are. Not the best pics, but you get the idea. It's the Escort Passport SR-7.

Sensors mounted in the bottom of the grill. Radar sensor on the driver side, front laser on the passenger side.

Rear laser sensor on top of license plate.

Now you see it.

Now you don't.

Also found this as a great way to get power to the unit, rather than tapping into/splicing some random wire, you plug this into the fuse box (I used the cigg lighter fuse), and connect the power wire for the radar unit to this. Worked great, not bad at all for $6.

I picked it up for about 600 on ebay a while ago. V1 isn't an option for me since radar detectors are illegal in Virginia. This detector is dead even with the V1 in every test I've read, and i've read quite a few of them.

Don't believe there is a new one. Maybe that is why its a remote install

Nope, you didn't miss a thing. That's why it's a remote install. Had the same one installed in the S2000 and loved it

I would much rather a radar detector ticket than a speeding ticket. Radar detector is a non-moving violation. Plus it's immune to VG-2 "detector detectors" so I don't have to worry about that so much.

Not much fun at all, it was a major bitch drilling the holes to mount the front sensors, i need smaller hands.

I would have mounted those front sensors on the TOP of the grill near the license plate would be rather than the bottom.

Thought about it, hell, i even tried but i couldn't get a drill in to that point to drill the holes. figured 2" wouldn't make but so much of a difference.

Jond, for a standard sort of detector, I HIGHLY recommend the ESCORT 8500. It has several useful tunable features and alerts, and has excellent range/pickup. It has picked up the slightest radar signals from around blind turns and crests in the road numerous times (off deflections obviously, detectors dont see around corners). And needless to say it has saved my butt a time or two and is the best detector Ive ever had.

This is supposed to have similar guts to the 8500.

BUt yea Jon works great. Same as i had in the S2000, you remember that one.

I always thought low placement of the sensors was a bad thing. Guess I was wrong. Learn something new everyday.

In general, it is, but i couldn't get in to the grill well enough to drill the holes for the sensors on the middle part of it. all in all it's about hte same height i had on my S2000 and it worked great there. Keep in mind this radar sensor itself is about the size of most window mounted radar detectors (the entire unit), so even though it's mounted lower, it's makes up for it in raw detecting power .

I don't get it. How is this legal, or how does it make sense to have one of these and not a V1?
