okay searched but i just wanna see if anyone else got any input. recently my car has been overheating. it seems like everytime you press the brake(car slowing down) the temp rises and falls alittle after you accelerate again. the temp also rises while cruising with the ac on. i know both my fans work because they come on when i turn on the ac, but thats when my car heats up mostly too.

just rite now i let the car idle until it gets up to temp. but my fans never came on automatically. the lower hose is not getting warm, so im thinking its probably the thermostat. im going to change it anyways. but just looking for some input to see if a bad thermostat fit the descriptions im describing.

 

Just remove it altogether, and see if it overheats. If it doesn't, then you'll know that was your problem.

 

that is the best and easiest thing to do to troubleshoot it.

Check your thermostat, the exact same thing happened to me on my old accord and as soon as I changed the thermostat the car quit overheating

 

Just take it out, and use a bunch of RTV sealant so it doesn't leak when you bolt the housing back together.

 

sorry to jack your thread man.. but im havin the same exact problem your havin.. but mines when i let car sits until it fully cools down and when i turn my car on it only takes about 5 minutes beofre it overheat that without me drivin it yet.. i dont know why.. and if i do drive it right after i start it it will overheat in less than 30 seconds.. wierd.... i got enough coolant in it.. i dont know i probly change the thermostat tonight and put some press coolant in it...and get all that dirt and nasty stuff out my radiotor and "resibour".. ill let yah know if thing cools down alil bit with my car.

 

I'm sure this isn't the whole problem but just in-case u guys didn't know, using 100% coolant can cause over heating. 50/50 mix is best.

 

Yeah, in the summertime here in TX, I'll just run straight water in it sometimes if I'm in the middle of a project and don't have any coolant laying around. Not too big of a deal although obviously mixing it with coolant would be better.

Had a honda civic that did that. Removing the thermostat didn't do anything, but after I removed it I noticed when it got fully heated up steam was coming out of the exhaust. Replacing the head gasket fixed the issue. Was only $23 for a new one.

 

yea i use that 50/50 thing u buy from advance... 50% coolant 50% water... that what i used..

 

yes im also using the correct mixture. but i will change the thermostat pretty soon, its hot as hell out here in sac
