Hehe, just noticed this... I guess they (The Dealership) forgot to put my VIN plate back on my tranny. And how come my tranny doesn't say LSD on it anymore?

I don't know, I had a hole in my inner housing and I guess they had to replace it. Is the inner housing the part that the VIN plate is attached to? If so, then that's why it's gone.. But why didn't they put it back?

JDM fiend stealing a USDM part? heh everything on ebay is so j-dumb.

I am not sure what you had done but it appears that they replaced your tranny. If you look very closely at certain points on the tranny you will notice small marks in the upper picture which are not present in the lower picture.

Also, I don't think the dealership would take the VIN tag off. And if they did it would be readily apparent.

they might have replaced the tranny and forgot to put the VIN plate back on. but if it were a new transmissin, the J4D LSD stamps wouldn't be worn off.

 

they did the same thing to a friend of mines 2000 ex civic, the dealership didn't put the vin plates back on when they replaced the tranny. they could of at least given you the bell housing back with the vin.

 

I'd find out RIGHT now....something seems REALLY fishy.

they probably replaced the complete tranny, but you better make sure they put in a ITR tranny and not a GSR tranny. All ITR trannys should say "LSD" on it.

 

yeah.. it looks like it might have rubbed off though.. mine has rubbed off over time. that tells me that it's not a new transmission

 

How can I make sure that I have an ITR tranny? I mean visually: stampings, markings, etc... as far as the LSD (in black marker type lettering) it was on it before, but now it is gone...

 

drive beside another ITR and check revs.

and try a burn out..

I mean, I would know if this were a GSR tranny right? I'm still revving at 4500 RPM in fifth gear @ 80 miles an hour

 

take a turn real hard and see how well the car sticks on the floor compared to before.

 

Just go back to the dealership and raise hell. Just claim that you are getting screwed and they F'ed up and didn't give you a R tranny. Then, let them figure out if it's a LSD R tranny. Problem solved.

Edit: ****,I just noticed, they painted your shroud, or acid bathed it. Go get your vin plate back. That could be a problem

Well, another thing, I just got some azenis mounted and those suckers are sticky--I only had my car for a week before I took it in so I really don't know how it performed before.... all I know now is that burn outs are really hard to do cause my tires are so sticky...

 

I think that is the best idea.

 

But can I determine if my tranny is in fact an ITR (LSD) tranny by any stamps, serial numbers on it anywhere?

Jack it up and spin the front wheel, the other should spin in the opposite direction if you have the LSD.

Same thing happened to my car apparently...went in for warranty work a long long time ago, came out w/out a tag.
