Default any experiance with a gsr crankshaft having to the reground??? +or-

I got quite a deal on a complete gsr swap. minus distributor and ecu. also crankshaft was out of the block. when looking at crankshaft i noticed it will need to be ground. anyone have any good or bad feedback on this????? these gsr cranks are like gold now so trying to find anyone in my area will be hard. thanks in advance.

heard good and bad. experienced bad on a ground D16Z6 crank. heard that honda puts a very thin heat-resistant metal on the surface of the crank journals and that goes away when the crank is ground. however i have also heard that grinding a honda crank is fine as long as you micropolish after.

i have zero experience with this but i have had freinds that have had theirs ground down. all of them ate the motor alive. i have heard more bad about it than good. do your research and do what works for you. if it were me i would just buy a new one or search the globe and find a used one that wont kill me price-wise.

The nitriding layer on a Honda crank (I believe) is quite thin 0.0010-.0.0020 deep--to do it properly (assuming you had to take at least that much off) you would be better off sending it to a place that does this for a living. Micropolishing the crank is a common operation and can be done by most machine shops with satisfactory results--as it takes off very little if any material.
